Remind me again where they developed this car. Was it Detroit or Rüsselsheim?

Since they are trying to get rid of Opel currently, I guess it's quite relevant. Especially given that the word we is used quite often.

Well? Feel free to explain yourself whenever you feel up to it. I don't know what kind of dots you're trying to connect here, but what does Opel have to do with a separate Frankfurt-based battery supplier? Dumping Opel doesn't mean all batteries go away.

Sure but will Frank Weber go away or has he been transferred to GM? Because the car itself was a Opel development and most of the people behind it are/were german.

My understanding is that Weber is in charge of all E-flex systems for GM, so whether Opel stays or goes has no bearing on where his paycheck is coming from.

Well, it will be out in late 2010 and in the showroom in early 2011 (if GM survives that long). i agree with the us goverment in asking " why is it taking GM 3-5 years to develop and sell something that is only taking everyone else 2 years to make?

Who else has brought a series-hybrid vehicle into production faster than GM? I was under the impression the Volt was the first of its kind.

I know they're nowhere near the same weight, but diesel locomotives first did the series-hybrid thing in 1986.

I'm fully aware that diesel locos are series units, we're obviously talking about cars here.

Still, it's not like the technology is brand new, and the Volt isn't the only car GM's taken ages to develop while teasing us the whole way. I'd say the Camaro is a worse offender, actually.

The stupid thing about the Volt is that GM had a workable series hybrid way back in 1999!

The question now is, what is taking them so long to get the Volt out?

And with a turbine engine, of all things! images/smilies/ohmy.gif Still, it can't have been very quiet...

Turbine engines can be surprisingly quiet - their noise depends on the shape of the fan blades. Certainly it's not that hard to get one down to the noise level of a modern diesel of equivalent output.

In addition, Chrysler had an even larger turbine fitted to a car back in the 60s and it was quiet compared to the petrol powered alternative, from all reports.
