| Speaking about results: Volkswagen made a profit of over 6 billion Euros in the last year. Just to put that into perspective.

| That's like the price of Toyota's Sunday lunch. Yes, it's a profit, but it's certainly nothing to be proud of yet. It's not enough to keep them afloat. I reckon they did most of that by selling what's left of their assets (ie Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, etc)

So, basically, Ford made ~$1.5 billion more than they did last year. I'd take that as a good sign for the company, no? Last edited by BerserkerCatSplat; April 26th, 2008 at 02:17 AM.. | |

Without having debt, they might be able to develop their cars better. Its actually pretty amazing any Ford has received quality ratings on par with Toyota with negative money to spend...

| ^ will bore you to death | Here's the part that got my attention "Ford posted a $100 million profit for the first quarter, largely on new hit cars and strong sales outside the U.S." If I was Ford I might be inclined to consider that point and go "what is different" and fix the problem... |

| The question is: Even if Ford manages the turnaround - will it be in time? There's no doubt that the European branches of Ford and GM (Opel/Vauxhall) could survive on their own, though. Obviously it's the home market in the USA that ruins those companies. Is there any reason why they do not simply adapt the very successful European models to compete with them against the Japanese? The Asian attack has been beaten back in Europe - why doesn't it work in the USA, too?
