British sports car maker Bristol has announced an even more muscular addition to its range of Fighter two-seater coupés.

The Fighter T has an 7996cc, all-aluminium, V10 engine with twin ball-bearing, liquid- cooled turbochargers and intercoolers, uprated engine internals and high-flow cylinder heads with high-lift camshaft, for which it quotes 755kW at 5600rpm and a tar-wrinkling 1400Nm at 4500.

A company spokesman said: "During the short time the Bristol Fighter has been on the market we have noted that owners tend to use the cars as everyday transport, as well as for recreational or track day purposes

Bristol says the standard Fighter produces 710Nm at 3500rpm; the Fighter T delivers more than 1200Nm at the same revs and continues to do so all the way up to the redline at 6000rpm.

It drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, which Bristol says will take it from 0-100km/h (in first gear!) in less than 3.5sec. A potential maximum speed of more than 430km/h has been electronically limited to a "more than sufficient" 360km/h at 4500rpm.

The chassis has stiffened to cope with the extra urge, and the suspension lowered by 10mm, with revised wishbone geometry front and rear, stiffer springs, firmer sports dampers and a 25 percent stiffer front anti-roll bar

The rear torque bushing have been replaced by ball joints and the car runs on five-spoke, 19" alloy rims with 285/35 tyres in front and 335/30 at the rear

Exterior changes have been limited to a radiused intake grille, side exit exhaust pipes with polished stainless-steel outlets and rear diffuser which Bristol claims reduces the car's drag coefficient to 0.27.

The Fighter T has a "lightweight sports interior" with engine-turned aluminium instrument and centre console, instrument faces varnished to match the leather upholstery, turned aluminium switchgear, a turbo-boost gauge and lightweight, "racing style" seats and steering wheel.

The spokesman said: "We have created a very special Fighter variant in response to the needs of some exacting customers which, as ever, remains a compact and enjoyable car to drive around town or as an exhilarating track car.

"Yet it takes two people and their luggage in great luxury and ease for trans-continental travel."

# First deliveries of the Fighter T are expected in September, 2007; Bristol doesn't quote a price but as an indication, the standard Fighter sells for £229 125 (about R3.2-million).
