+1, i was just comming back to see if i had posted in this thread, and had decided on the same logic as you. I mean if theirs a car worth loosing part of your femur for then its definitely a Alfa Romeo images/smilies/lol.gif.

I think I'd better clear some things up: As already stated I will be driving this car ALOT, so comfort is more important than being sporty.

Then there is the stuff that I have to lug around with me every now and then: My benchmark is wether I can fit 2 originally boxed Dell Poweredge Servers, a smaller aluminium case which contains tools and equipment and my personal bag which has my Laptop, paperwork and a change of clothes.

On that basis: Golf GTI? NO. Reason number one: ITS A GOLF. Reason number two: ITS STILL A GOLF (and a VW at that - which makes it even worse!). Reason number three: The Poweredge boxes don't fit in the back (unless I fold down the seats - pointlessness).

As you can see, I do not like VW at all... For me that badge just proclaims boringness coupled with beige underpants. Partly because they are so damn common, partly because this is Opel country with the main Rüsselsheim factory just down the road but most of all because they are incredibly overrated IMO.

Which brings me to the Passat... yes it can be a looker but I counted how many Passats there are in my street: A full dozen - maybe more. As I said, common.

There is just one Mondeo on this street BTW, it's the daily driver of our resident american car nut who makes weekends interesting with the sound of his 76 Vette and his 75 LTD. A neat open top sports car is definately something I will look into in the future but for now the focus is on long range comfort.

The Skoda Octavia RS seems like it's worth a look though (here again fully loaded it fits the budget). Thanks for that tip!

Just an Update: Have test driven the Mondeo and was really really impressed. Can't compare it to the Ford I used to know (reliable but shitty interiors), a Mondeo is a very nice place to be in.

Am now working out the details of the lease and will be signing the contract in a few weeks time for this:

Modeo Titanium X Estate
2.0 TDCI 140bHP
Black Metallic
Tinted rear windows
16" 5-Spoke Alloys
Black Leather/Alcantara interior
Adaptive Suspension
Adaptive Radar Assisted Cruise Control
Business Package (SatNav, Bluetooth)
Heated front and rear seats
Parking assist
Alu pedals
Solar Reflect Windscreen

I think I did good here or did I forget something? images/smilies/wink.gif Can't wait to be rid of my old Escort in any case.

You did good Sir. To be brutally honest both the Ford and the Honda are very, very good choices. Both have great engines, both are comfortable and both come with all the electronics you need to keep the little 6 year old in you entertained.

Line in port in the Glove box is standard on all models

And yeah... still need a Diesel but a boxer and AWD is a goal to strive for. On the other hand though, I would be just fine with a VTec and some scaffolding. 8)

Alfa 159. Best car I've ever driven, and it was a diesel!! (I've driven a 500hp mustang cobra btw) Just get the alfa and forget about the whole not fitting thing. Its worth it, I promise you.

Well, I dont mean to beat the Subaru bush, but they are coming out with diesel boxers this year, starting with Europe(which works for the OP).

What about a Volvo? If it's comfort you're after, that might be your car images/smilies/wink.gif Or the facelifted Saab 9³? Or the new Renault Laguna? Anyway, the new Mondeo is quite a good car images/smilies/smile.gif

I actually looked at a Volvo, driven a few recently as well. Problem is, that they are quite expensive, I just get more toys with the Ford. Plus: The Modeo is better looking than any Volvo IMO. The Laguna is made in wrong country - there's a reason why they set cars on fire over there images/smilies/biggrin.gif. Saab is not really me, to be honest. I just can't picture myself owning one.

Ooh the SAAB 9-3 SC with a 1.9 TTiD. Get it while it's hot. Lots of torque. Lots of everything. Costs nothing.
