Default Can you believe this car!?

Not ur usual petrol or diesel car,
This one is electric, and before you close now you have to hear the specs first: 800bhp, 4 sec 0-60mph and 7 sec 0-100mph, that's faster than a 911 turbo images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif
At Italy's Nardo high-speed test track facility, the Eliica (The car's name) recorded a top speed of 370kmh images/smilies/eek.gif images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif
Auto Express posted a review of the car here
The official website is here
Another story here

And a couple of vids to download: Image video and tech video

And of course, it's japanese, who else can create something like this images/smilies/smile.gif

Why not believe it? Makes sense, engine motors do have advantages. That would be a car to review for Richard, don't you think? images/smilies/biggrin.gif

lol, he meant electric motors I guess.....
Well, we should really email top gear about this one, with 8 wheel drive and that ridiculous acceleration figure it would be a good car to try and beet the enzo's powerlap time images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I emailed them telling them about it images/smilies/biggrin.gif
If you see an episode with this car in it, you should know who tipped them off to it images/smilies/wink.gif

I think a car with 8 wheels would have alot more advantage in terms of traction on the road... therefore achieving higher top speed... I doubt it would go round a track quicker than a 911 turbo

8 wheels = lots more friction...

more friction means better traction which = better acceleration

during top speed runs... frictions on the tire is not that important... 8 wheels = less load on tires which = lower tire temp. therefore better highspeed performance

guys, u're forgetting something, the car doesn't have transmission! no gears! according to the review u're blasted in an almost uniform linear acceleration, they say it pulled 0.8gs while accelerating, that is nothing I've heard of before in any "conventional" car

.8gs isnt that extrodinary. There are plenty of cars that achieve that, but it is hideous and the eight wheel design has very few advantages. There is a reason why the 6 wheel concept was only in F1 for a few years... images/smilies/wink.gif

Uh yeah of course I meant electric motors. That is one advantage, power output is linear, as well as flat torque line, so maximum torque from the beginning till the end. And I am not so sure about the reasons why the six wheel F1 car didn't last that long, but I think that is a whole different story, an F1 car and a car for the street. I heard they made the four front wheels in the F1 car so they can decrease the diameter for better aerodynamics, and that is certainly not the reason why that electric car has eight wheels.

The reasons are different, but the result will be the same.

Anyone read Japanese? I can understand some of the data in the specs but not all. In particular, what about autonomy?

A little something I found about 6 wheel Formula cars....
The car I could find out about is the Tyrrell Ford P34-1976

Tyrrell's chief designer, Derek Gardner, decided that reducing the frontal area of the car would bring advantages in speed by reducing aerodynamic drag. By reducing the size of the front wheel, this could easily be achieved, but a second set of front wheels would be needed to give the same area of rubber contact as a larger wheel would have.

For 1976, Goodyear agreed to develop a special small tire for the P34
In 1977, tire technology moved on (as it always does in Formula One) and Goodyear decided not to continue developing the smaller tire for Tyrrell (who was the only customer for such a tire). Consequently, the 1977 car struggled to remain competitive on outdated front tire rubber
No other team raced a six-wheel car after Tyrrell, but Williams did test a car with 4 rear wheels in the early 1980's. It was never raced though, and current regulations demand that Formula 1 cars have 4 wheels only.

The high point for the car came at the 1976 Swedish GP when future World Champion (for Ferrari) Jody Scheckter came in first with team mate Depailler second

So this obviously shows that the 6 wheel design had no obvious flaws in itself....

technology is great but that thing looks like ass and the fact that you have a 800hp sports..bus is just begging to be made fun of images/smilies/lol.gif

put some lIons in a loble or radical and you got one hell of a green car.
or you could put cooking oil from a mexican restaurant in your twin turbo v8 diesel images/smilies/tongue.gif

hehe, cooking oil from a mexican restaurant won't make ur car any greener images/smilies/tongue.gif
well I love it cuz it's refreshing, I always thought of electric cars as punny toys that probably have a top speed of 20kmh, to see that there's potential for a 400Kmh super electric car gives me faith in the future and in that we won't have to abandon the thrills of speed for saving our own existence.
