Ex-Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker has announced the formation of his own bespoke-build car company, Fisker Coachbuild. He plans to design and manufacture exclusive sports cars, the first of which will be unveiled towards the end of this year, and just 150 examples of each design will be manufactured. Fisker Coachbuild will be based in Newport Beach, southern California, and funded by a number of private investors.
Fisker resigned earlier this month as the director of Ford's Global Advanced Design Studio in Irvine, California, and his position as the director of design for Aston Martin. He was responsible for models including the Aston DB9 and upcoming AM V8 Vantage and between September 2001 and August 2003, he was creative director of Ford's London-based Ingeni design studios. Prior to joining Ford, he was president and CEO of BMW's Designworks USA studio in California. Fisker's partner in the company is Bernhard Koehler, formerly the director of business and operations of Ford's Irvine studio and the director for new business development at Ingeni, London. He also previously worked at BMW, where he formed a training studio for modelling techniques and technologies, and acted as the Designworks director of 3D services and then director of operations. He has worked alongside Fisker for much of his career, and was responsible for the modelling and design/concept production of the Aston DB9 and AM V8 Vantage. Although he originally trained as a sculptor, his expertise is in bringing design concepts into production and manufacture. "We are excited to finally be able to practice and apply our expertise and car design knowledge with finely-engineered product", Fisker said in a statement today. "We hope to bring a unique addition to the luxury sports car market by providing distinctive sports cars through our designs."

Henrik Fisker ??
That's a norwegian name, I didn't know norwegians actually collaborated in designing beautiful cars. The last one I know of is the Saab 9-5 estate, and that looks like shit, sort of seems like it's drunk from the back.. |

His company has already started production on two cars, the Fisker Tramonto and Latigo CS. Based off a Mercedes SL55 and the BMW 6-Series respectively. It's not a built-from-scratch operation yet.

why cant car companies just perfect what they already have? instead of just splitting up into 500 different mediocre companies!

Those front ends are hideous. I doubt they'll make it for very long. Small car companies never have much luck.

I don't know, they look kind of like a Cheshire cat. I'd buy the coupe, personally.

Being able to design cars and being able to make cars are totally different things. I wish him luck, but just because Astons are nice doesn't mean his cars will be.

"Danish is cool!"
Both cars have a sense of great styling, modern and vivid, frontends are a bit love-or-hate sort of thing, but the back of the coupe is just fabuleous, sadly it's based on a BMW.

Hey, atleast post had some new info and was related to the topic. In my mind that is a acceptable reason to raise a thread from the grave.

Both the Fisker Tramonto and Latigo CS have their own, much more recent thread:

The first car (based on the SL55) looks good tho. Hopefully it's not just a styling exercise, the car needs to be more powerful than the car they are based on to get some attention.

Henrik Fisker did design the DB9, so that's where the Aston inspiration comes from. On top of that, underneath the design and everything, it's basically a 6-series, so that explains the BMW'ish features.

thinking about it, it does look better than a M6, though it reminds me of one
but then what is that really saying? how hard is it to be better looking than a M6? look its a M6 turned into a fisker! ![]() or not, i so wish the M6 was a better looking car, upclose it looks great, but its really strange how it gets uglier the farther back you step, only thing in the world i can think of that gets less attractive as you get farther away M6 isnt horrible IMHO, its just not styled well enouph for the chassi its on Last edited by Ottobon; January 22nd, 2007 at 6:39 AM. |
