Hi - I'm Resty - new to these forums after a) starting to watch Top Gear b) starting driving and c) being recommended countless times by Speedtouch.
As I mentioned, I have recently taken up driving and I am looking to get myself a cheap but decent car to use once I've passed my test. Ideally I'd only want to speed £2500 max on the car but I'd like to hear the forum's opinions. Thanks, Resty |

![]() I have no idea what cars are going for in the UK, so I can't be of much help. But the vast consensus here on these boards is that European Fords and Honda Civics (Type R's especially) are the bees knees.

^ Really, no. He isn't that kind of person. Actually, thinking of your hometown Resty...
![]() Also: WAHAY YOU JOINED!!! I've been trying to get him to join for AGES. Also - damn you and your lots of money. In other news, I want a Honda Civic 1.4 saloon. Seems pretty solid. Other than that, don't get a Ka as you have so wanted. One thing to remember No Boss, is that over here insurance is a bitch. Type Rs would be out of it. However we have a friend who has £600 insurance for his MG Midget 1500... Last edited by Speedtouch; November 18th, 2008 at 9:30 PM. |

Best possible option right there. Don't buy a civic, you'll only crash it/have it stolen/have paint stripper poured over it by rival civic chavs/be followed everywhere by the police who will pull you over all of the time/etc etc...

Quite un-safe, uncomfortable on long journeys, mpg could be better and engine although simle are tricky to get into to fix being so compact. Also, good ones are very over priced, £2,500 won't get much of a 60s Cooper S. How about an old Pug, they go on for ages, a 106/206 could fit the bill.

Yea 206 is a good idea for a 1st car - or may be a older Corsa or even possibly a small (1.25) Fiesta.
