Fords attack on Mustang fans and aftermarket.

These are not my words, copied from another forum.

Are you a Mustang enthusiast? Maybe thinking of starting your own Mustang website as a tribute to your favorite car? How about maybe a message forum just like this one? What about designing or building aftermarket parts for your beloved pony car? We'll unless you want big legal issues, you'll think again.

Ford is showing that they are not joking around about protecting the Mustang's trademark and name. Many companies, websites, and publications are facing potental lawsuits from Ford if they don't cease and desist using the Mustang Logo and trademarked word in their bussiness names or websites like Mustangs Plus.

Donald Farr of Mustangs Monthly has reported that companies are being told through corperate lawyers that they need to turn over Internet domain names to Ford, change company names, cough up bussiness cards, letter heads, signs and other related items. Among other items they must also provide a cashiers check for $5,000 US dollars in damages to Ford. Farr says "Ford fears the usage might be construed as an affiliation with Ford". Obviously any company with licensing agreements with Ford would be exempt from all of this.

If you ask me, sounds like Ford is upset that Toyota took over their #2 rank as worlds largest automaker and is feeling a pinch in the wallet so figures they can get "$5,000 in damages" to help ease the pain. And just think, everyone bitched and moaned that GM had to lay off workers, atleast they aren't attacking the enthusiasts that pay their bills.

Ok, try this again in the proper thread...

VW tried similar tactics years ago, going after me for using the blue/white VW logo on my website. I was a little ticked off at first but it was their copyrighted logo so I did remove it along with my brand loyalty...when it came time to buy a new car, I bought a Subaru WRX instead of an R32. images/smilies/wink.gif
