I know of someone who owns an original, 1960's KR. Red, in fact.

New one looks great!

Are you referring to the weak noise that comes from a 4.6L car's exhaust? Or the rather average sounding spec sheet lol? When I look at one I typically can't help but think of a bloated '67, but this new KR looks pretty good. Nice and low, and the supercharged 5.4 making 540hp is tough to discount too.

Decent internals, shit exterior.

The S-197 Mustangs are nothing more than Aerodynamic Bricks.

I think the Cadillac looks ok, compared to the new CTS. I like it.

the engine noise, the i think the location of the mufflers is to blame (right near the end of the exhaust), i know i do like the way SLPs sound on the current stang

I'm not too excited about the new KR for several reasons. One, I'd like to see some side scoops no matter if they worked or not. Two, the suspension is still rather lacking. Three, considering that dealers were asking for and getting 20k over the sticker for the GT500, I can't picture how much they will get for the KR version.

I say if you want a killer Mustang, put in a supercharged LS2 and aftermarket suspension upgrades and you'd have a car that would run rings around the GT500.

Supposedly the suspension on the GT500KR is getting tuned by Carrol Shelby, just like he tuned the suspension on the Shelby GT Mustangs (I've seen the suspension pieces he used on the Shelby GT, and they rock!).

So the suspension will be better able to keep the car planted around a track, unlike when the regular GT500 went around the Top Gear track.

Honestly, I expect Shelby to have as much of a hand in the KR as they did the GT500 (Read: Almost nothing).

I remember reading in Motor Trend two years ago that they could have put an IRS in the 500 like the previous SVT Cobra but didn't think the "marginal handling benifits" made the increase in weight worth it. There is only so much they can do with the stock setup. Maybe I'm wrong and the adjustments will end up making a world of difference.

well the roush seems to be proof that the original chassi is somewhat capable

id love for it to have IRS, but all the drag racing guys (the mustangs biggest fans) seem to be in love with solid rear axles, don't ask me exactly why

I still believe that with an engine swap and aftermarket suspension upgrades, you could do a hell of a lot more for a lot less money, especially after the deal markups.

Why an engine swap? It's not like the 4.6 is an unmoddable engine. For the price of an LS2 you could put a nice FI setup on the 4.6.

The Shelby GT500 and GT500KR have the 5.4l derrived from the Ford GT (which was derrived from the Ford Lightning).

It's still a Ford Mod Motor though and is very easy to get stupid high HP and Torque numbers out of with just minor work.

But these GT500 KRs will be built with the Mustangs at Flat Rock, then get shipped to Las Vegas to be tuned and tweaked by Shelby. Just like they did with the Shelby GT's, so it will have better handling.

However, 08 is supposed to have the new Bullitt Mustang come out too, so there's a lot of Mustang stuff coming next year.

The main plus to putting in an LS2 would be the savings in weight. The GT500 has a heavy iron block upfront and with its intercooler and other goodies it's incredibly nose heavy. A supercharged LS2 would weigh a lot less and produce just as much if not more power depending on how you tuned it. Taking that weight off the front and adding it to the rear with an IRS would improve the balance.

I know that, I assumed he meant swap out the engine from a regular Mustang GT, since swapping a less powerful engine into an expansive GT500 is just stupid. images/smilies/lol.gif Not to mention the complexity of the swap, the rewiring you'd have to do, etc, etc. Expensive and pointless for such little gains.
