Default looking for a good AWD car

So my dad got his Christmas bonus today, and he tells me he's looking at buying an AWD/4WD car or truck. Preferably, I think we both agreed that we'd rather have a car than a truck, so I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for good AWD cars? We have about a 2000$ budget, possibly more after tax returns, so this is why I'm asking - I need to find something good for the budget we have. If we had more money I'd just have said "Get an Impreza" and been done with it images/smilies/tongue.gif

Its either get an AWD vehicle, or he's just going to buy winter tyres for all our current vehicles. Winter tyres...on a Camaro? images/smilies/lol.gif Help us please, before it all goes awry...

2.5RS. We've been over this. images/smilies/tongue.gifOh wait, $2000. images/smilies/sad.gif

100-150k mile Legacy's seem to be going for about $2,000.

Hm, I did search Craigslist but it didn't turn up anything today images/smilies/sad.gif Are there any other good sites I can find used cars on for that price? I'm not very resourceful when it comes to searching for used cars.

For $2000k I'd get winter tires and chains. Its a bit of a waste to buy a car you would only need for a couple weeks a year. And yes a Camaro with proper ties, sandbags in the back, and a competent driver will do. For reference I've had no problem driving my Mustang with shity all seasons down here in Poulsbo.

Well, my dad actually wants another car so he won't have to drive his Camaro in crappy weather anymore - so if we do get another, it will be a daily driver, for sure.

Ranger fx4 would be pretty nice.

Not very good selection of awd cars for $2000

Maybe a beat to hell DSM?

You may, since you hardly get snow in your area, just buy a set of winter tires and rims and throw them on when a storm hits. My Impreza would be stellar in the snow if it had winter tires. Instead it has what they laughably call "all season" Potenza RE92's that would be horrendous in a two wheel drive vehicle.

If you are going to buy an Impreza, get a mid 90's Outback wagon. Bulletproof. That $2000 can turn into twice that if you save up, I really doubt you are going to see that much snow again this season.

And check out the 1983 AMC Eagle Hemily posted. They are AMAZING in any weather, any conditions.

Yeah... maybe a DSM shouldn't be on that list.

Yeah, even stock DSM's should not be considered for daily driving. Actually, they should not be considered for a weekend project car either.

I say go for the AMC. It's unique and almost a classic.

That AMC thing...images/smilies/yucky.gif >.<

What about this? http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/950640131.html I don't know if that's one of the AWD models, however, and the ad doesn't say.

In the end, this is going to be my dad's decision - so we may end up with a truck anyway - but he wanted me to look at stuff too and see what I found in the way of AWD cars.

The AMC is the most interesting of the ones listed so far, and it's likely the most capable as it has Jeep running gear.

Ugh, one of the worst cars I ever owned was a 1989 FWD Legacy. Those things are pretty gutless. Though the manual may make up for it a little.

Why? Because if she'd get over the "ooooh, I hate trucks" thing, she'd find that there are loads of small high quality 4x4 trucks that get decent gas mileage running around out there. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif
