I did this last month but my bleedin memory card broke.
Anyway I like to call it off-roading on a budget. I went with a group of about 12 of us with 4 vehicles. I was in a £500 2.0 Vauxhall Frontera with my brother, his girlfriend and some guy called Geordie. In a group there was a completely destroyed Series 3 Land Rover, a nicely done up Series 3 Land Rover and also a Lightweight Land Rover. The place we go is an old quarry and you pay £20 to get in and you can just drive around as much as you want all day. On to the photos. This particular piece of mud is called the "Coffin", no-one has ever made it in all the times I have been. As soon as we got there we saw this Jeep 4.0 Cherokee trying it and obviously he got stuck. ![]() ![]() Slightly ironic ![]() Unfortunately as this was about 10am there was only the Cherokee, us in the Frontera and another Frontera there, still we had a good go at getting him out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Luckily a V8 Range Rover turned up and the Cherokee was soon out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hilux ![]() ![]() ![]() A little Suzuki at an interesting angle. ![]() Shortened Range Rover ![]() ![]() Disco ![]() Series 1 Landy with fold down windscreen ![]() Suzuki with interesting Pick-Up conversion ![]() I don't think he quite got it right. ![]() ![]() Views of some af the area. ![]() ![]() Defender stuck in the Coffin. ![]() ![]() ![]() Disco stuck in mud next to the Coffin. ![]() ![]() Our Frontera ![]() ![]() John thought his Series 3 might get through the Coffin. It didn't ![]() Us rescuing a stuck Suzuki. ![]() This defender had popped a spring. ![]() ![]() Frontera having a swim. ![]() ![]() Johns Series 3 also having a swim. ![]() The Series 3 in all its glory. ![]() Chevy Blazer(?) ![]() John thought this looked like a good idea, it wasn't. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This Hilux just wouldn't give up. ![]() ![]() ![]() Frontera coming straight at me. ![]() ![]() The Series 3 went for another swim, this time it didn't make it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just to rub salt into the wound Jethro sailed through in his Lightweight

Another of Johns good ideas.
![]() ![]() Amazingly he made it. ![]() ![]() There seem to be a slight problem with the chassis ![]() Problem solved ![]() A shortened and chopped Range Rover ![]() Frontera going through a mud splash. ![]() ![]() ![]() The aftermath ![]() Jethro getting his Landy well and truly wedged. ![]() And then my memory card ran out of space.

I've never been off roading, but it does look a bit mucky. Do many people go off roading with their dogs and stuff?

Johns the guy in the bright orange hat. His dad owns a big haulage company so some of the cars came on a big wagon. Unfotunately we had to do the 40 mile drive home in the Frontera so we couldn't follow him on some of the stupid stuff. Last time we did try one of the ones he got stuck on but nearly killed the engine, it got completely flooded and its petrol so it doesn't like water. We also don't have a snorkel on the Frontera.

Weston Coyney near Leek (we drive past Rudyard Lake which they used for the Amphibious car challenge).

Looks like a lot of fun ,but I still would prefer the Nürburgring if given the choice!

nurburgring on the other hand is just driving fast around, and a little messing around means messing around with your life, which isn't fun at all. In offroading, you get to drive somewhere, get out the car and have a laugh and mock people how stupid they were trying to drive into the river.... etc, on the nurburgring, I don't think there are alot of safe places to try to be funny on nurburgring But now, my flame suit against Germans is up and running at full force

That looks like one hell of a fun way to spend 20 quid.

Its even less than that. There was four in the car so it was only £5 each and we all put £5 petrol money in.
Edit// Heres a video going up one of the big hills. Its fairly poor quality. Hopefully it will work but I had to convert it as Youtube didn't like it as a .mov.

Lol, I can imagine a dog in the back of a 4x4 puking up
(Like top gear dog did). I'm a bit of an environmentalist when it comes to unnecessary transport journeys, sorry When I'm older I'll do something like this: paintball. But, I'm not sure If I could live with myself knowing i'm hurting the planet just to go through mud. Sure, my parents have a freelander and it's not as fuel efficient, but we don't do drives we don't need to and stuff. It's also good because sometimes we've used it for continental driving. |

Also its a load of tripe anyway. The percentage of greenhouse gasses contributed by man is 0.28%, 5.53% if we don't take water vapour into account. Humans also only contribute 3.225% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. Basically humans are insignificant to the planet and even though global warming is happening, we are not the cause.

After seeing those pictures, I really want to find someplace around here to take my Disco to play. Driving through mud puddles at the nearby construction site is all good fun, but I want a real challenge.
