Gentlemen, one of my dear friends Darren is looking at purchasing a used pickup truck. Since I'm a Dodge guy of course I said to him "get a Ram 1500" but then he said he wanted an expert opinion. So thats why I'm here, I've come to you all to ask what you think is the better truck in any aspect; power, handling, economy, reliability, etc..
So please, commence! The two trucks in question are 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat Super-crew 5.4L Triton 4x4 vs. 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad-Cab Sport 5.7L HEMI 4x4 |

Honda Ridgeline.
Ok seriously, the Ford.

The Ridgeline isn't a real truck.
It's the Dodge by default, as the Ford will set itself on fire in your garage. And I'd seriously look at a Ram 2500 or 3500 with the Cummins diesel.

Dodge. I think the Ford is a great truck, but the Hemi (however overrated) is a solid motor and I would put my money on it over the new 3v Ford block.

Grass Roots Motorsport loves the Ridgeline just saying
but of the two a friend of mine had a dodge 1500 and loved it. He used to beat on it pretty hard and never had any problems so i assume it's pretty solid. The only real issue was gas mileage but i can't imagine there will be a real difference between the ford and the dodge on that point.

I'll be the odd one here and say Ford. I've heard guys complain about the fuel milage of the Hemi. Plus, I've driven a couple of used Dodges and was never impressed with the durability after a few years of use. I'll also say that if anyone is actually ride in the back the Ford would probably be more comfy for them.

A lot of people tend to like new F-150's styling and interior over the Dodge, any input on those grounds?

There, now that's out of the way I'd like to request a "Do not give a shite" poll option. |

Last time I checked the best two trucks on the market were the Toyota Tundra and the Chevy Silverado.
Out of the two choices you've given us, I'd still say get a Chevy Silverado 1500. That's from my personal experiance (I've driven the Ram, F150, and Silverado before), however I haven't driven the Tundra so I don't know how that is.

I agree. I humbly beseech a mod to alter the poll so we can have a "Go soak your head, noob!" option.

In 2004, the Tundra isn't a full-sized truck. It's more like a 3/4 or 7/8ths scale truck. If you're looking for a full-sizer, that disqualifies it. They also produced less power than the competition. The Chevrolet 1500 has the CSK (so-called Cold Spark Knock) problem and is therefore not worth considering. In addition, all the GM trucks of the era have lots of design and construction flaws, not least of which is the offset steering wheel - the wheel is offset to the outside 1-2 inches. So, when the airbag goes off in a crash, you can get spun around it and hit the console. Another option would be a used 2004 Nissan Titan - which, IMHO, would be the best option of the 1500-class full sized trucks.

I thought you may be interested in seeing that. Silverado, Tundra and F-150 at Ford's proving grounds in Arizona. |

Out of those years, definitely the F150. If it was a diesel option, then it would be the Dodge.
