Planning on buying a Nissan Pathfinder

I am just wondering if anyone has owned, owns, or has driven a Pathfinder. How was your experience with the car? I am looking to buy a 1999.5-2001 Pathfinder, and am wondering how you liked the car. This will be my first car, i have one or two other options (Mitsubishi Galant or Jeep Cherokee) around the same year maybe older.

I am looking on spending under $10k, i am open to any suggestions to other cars aswell, but i have been looking at a lot of cars and i think this is the cheapest with what im looking for.

I am looking for either old car with good performance or a new car with nice interior (room for friends). Also, i gotta admit, something that the ladies will likeimages/smilies/biggrin.gif . My original choice was a "88 Porsche 944, but my dad says that the parts will be too expensive.

Please give me advice or suggestions!

Thanks

Personally I don't think 944 parts would be that expensive, but even if they are a bit more expensive than a pathfinder you probably would break even anyway. The pathfinder most likely will use more fuel and if you take the money you save on fuel by driving the Porsche with the I4 engine and put that toward parts you should be fine.

So if I were you, I'd talk to my dad and tell him you calculated the difference in running cost & parts to show that you'd break even. Then you can go ahead and get the car you want (which seeing your avitar and sig, I'm guessing you want the Porsche more)

And if all else fails, theres the 924 that looks quite similar. The humps are missing, but seeing that it's powered by what's basically a volkswagon engine the parts would be pretty cheap. Also around here, Los Angeles, the junkyards do have 944's from time to time. Since not to many people seem to drive them they normaly still have the parts you want. (good luck finding a newer pathfinder at a junkyard, if you do find it... it's probably going to be stripped)

Pathfinder's gonna be the most reliable, capable 4x4 for the money. But if your other option is a 944, I'd suggest narrowing down what you want/need.

I agree. You're going to drive the car salesman nuts.

"I think I want a Pathfinder."
"Oh, we have one right here you might like."
"But I also like Porsches."
"Jesus."

I've got a 2001 Pathy, with the 3.5 liter engine.. if your means extend to that year, even the basic model, you're far better off with the newer engine, as used in the Murano, 350Z, etc. 240 horses to pull you along, and they are built in Japan, which means they are pretty reliable. Look for a couple of forums (nicoforums) to see the major problems that are usually encountered by owners. BTW, do NOT buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee... they are really badly made, especially for those years.

CBuck03 My uncle has a pathfinder. Its a very very good suv. Im not a fan of Suvs but for the money your paying its definitly worth looking into.

The Jeep on the other hand is definitly not worth buying, from many angles its a waste of money.

go for the nissan

I'd sooner get a Toyota 4Runner then a Nissan, but the Pathfinder is still a good truck. I hear they're pretty peppy with a V6 and a manual tran, if you can find one.
