This thread is for all of you that have private plates on your car

So post some pics of your privates

I'm getting mine soon and will be C 6 VRG on my 1993 Volkswagen Corrado VR6

You can also post some pics of plates that you like on cars aswell

My dad has two with his initials plus a single digit number, but his initials spell out a common 3 letter word which makes it weird.

Vanity plates, as we call them, are very cheap here (less than $100/year) but I never bothered to get one because I have nothing to write on it. Most of the ones you see here where you can write whatever you want are pretty cocky and stupid. Putting something like "2FAST4U" or something to that effect is a great way to get pulled over.

I'd probably get something from a TV show, like ASSMAN (proctologist from Seinfeld) or NCC-1701.

I think it's sort of silly to pay a lot of money on a license plate. It's mostly showing off... I like the way the UK DVLA makes ridiculous amounts of money by actioning vanity plates though. Just recently the record "F1" plate. Some sucker paid over 500 000€ for it. They should have given him ASSMAN-plate from Seinfeld as a bonus

In Finland they cost 1000€ + some registration fees.

I think D.A.R.E. programs are complete crap, but the black plate looks cool on cars and supposedly if an officer sees you support the D.A.R.E. program they go easy on you. Cops are really lazy here.

In the UK they're a lot less impressive. For a start, you pay about £800 just for a letter, a number, a space, then three letters. So my dads is letter number space JVH (JVH being his initials). You can't get very creative at all, even if you have serious cash the possibilities are limited because you're only allowed certain combinations of letters and numbers with spaces. Though C6 VTE passed me on a certain leaf-sprung ox-cart last week.

You can't even bump characters around, the spacing has to be legal or else you'll be fined and get 3 points on your license, so that VW Corrado up there will eventually get the driver pulled over.

So all around private plates in the UK are generally rubbish.

My one is S1AKV for Sue (Mrs), Ian (Me), Alex (Eldest - Son), Katie(Middle - Daughter) and Victoria (Youngest - Daughter) - me and the family. I think I posted a link in another thread to the DVLA web page concerned.

I saw this one in Austria a while back. I wonder why someone would (a) buy a Mazda 3 MPS and (b) buy that plate.



Other than that, there is one a couple of doors down my road "A11 JAN" on a BMW Mini Cooper.

But I do see ones everyday at the station, but they are uninteresting and on boring cars like X5s and XC90s.

No such thing as true vanity plates in Germany, but you can mix and mash letters and numbers together as long as they start with your Town abbreviation, and it only costs 10€ once.

You can create e.g. SI-C-666 or SU-M-41 or SU-CK-69. The DMV reserves the right to refuse your request though, so you won't get your A-H-88 number plate in Germany.

I think spelling dumb words with number plates is retarded but oh well.
Pretty much it's only use for me is that it allows me to choose the smallest number plate size for my Bike. The normal ones look like you still carry your garage door around with you.
