I'm sure the Coupe will be faster, it's much stiffer and has different suspension settings which makes it easier to drive.

I suppose it is in their back yard but come on nissan!!!

I'd be interested to know which was the fastest 'stock/unmodified' car - the track day specials don't count in my eyes. I bet it'll be a skyline or a porsche.........

Youd think that Zonda F would be faster than carrera GT since it has a much better power/weight ratio.

Veyron.. No, not the ultimate supercar images/smilies/tongue.gif

Serously, put no stock in 'ring times. They're almost worthless. Track conditions differ too much, track knowledge is too important compared to other tracks, track is too long, times are taken from a mixture of public days and closed days etc.

You can't compare the times of any two cars on that list as if they mean anything.

It's an X5 stripped and slammed with a 650+hp V12 like in the McLaren F1.

700bhp from a V12 from BMW's Le Mans car. So, yeah.

iirc, the top ten is mostly dominated by Porsches, with the new Ford GT and Chevy Z/06 making a suprising appearance on the list as well. I don't know if there is a Nissan on the top ten stock list...

When SportAuto runs cars for their supertest on the Nordschleife they do it with the same driver, in virtually identical conditions and with no other traffic on the track. The driver is ring expert Horst Von Saurma.

As for the Veyrons laptime, remember it's a very heavy car, and up to a certain point you can't bend the laws of physics... The Carrera GT, other fast Porsches, Z06, V8 Vantage and many others on the other hand was developed on the 'Ring.

For some strange reasons Ferraris aren't really that fast on the 'Ring. The 360 CS barely managed to equal the comfort setup 996 Turbo and the F430 is barely a second faster, whereas the 997 Turbo is way ahead. I think it might have something to do with the monsterous grip of the Turbo as well as the mighty torque fromthe VTG-turboed flat six. But I'm not all that sure... images/smilies/wacko.gif

You can't compare the times of any two cars on that list as if they mean anything.
of course you can because the vast majority of those times were clocked by sport auto with the same driver behind the wheel.
and they were all done on a closed circuit.

I think it has to do a lot with the fact that Ferrari's are designed for flat Grand Prix type circuits, like Silverstone or the Nurburgring GP track. The 'Ring is too bumpy for their fragile suspension.

While this can be a fun reference to look at it cannot be the definitive test of a sports car because there are too many variables:

Driver
Tires
Weather
Traffic
..and so on.

It would be intersting to see a best motoring style show, where they take the top sports cars, put in the same driver and put the same tires (or at least same class of tires) on each car and then you can truely see which cars will do best.

Best Motoring is the most biased car show ever made.
