I'm assuming a remote starter is one of those keyfob dongles that, when you press it, start the engine.

Umm...I have little experience of aftermarket ones. The Yank Tank that I had as a hire car in Canada had one [which appeared to be offered by GM as an option] was great fun for scaring passers-by in the car park (same way as I now use remote door-opening to scare people in supermarkets), and great to get the car ready-air-conditioned on a really hot day, but I'd have no real use for it over here (we never get hot days).

I know Pimp My Ride (argh, sorry) usually fit a remote starter, and the ones I looked at online out of a brief spurt of curiosity were about a UK grand, at least. This was a while back though.

I could not think of a possible use for one except the air con teeb mentioned, oh and winding people up, and I am supposed to have grown out of that sort of thing. ...

In Canada lots of people get it to warm up their cars in the winter, especially if it's parked outside.

Doesn't get too cold in Vancouver and I never warm up my car so I never had any use for one.

Anyone else that has em? In Chicago we got hot sticky weather and freezing cold weather so it definitely comes in use and it's convenient since all the remote starts also come with keyless entry.

I really wouldn't mind having a remote starter in the winter, especially for short trips when the car is just starting to warm up when you get to where you're going. Good thing my Disco heats up quickly!

The integra's heater takes about 30 seconds from startup to nice warm air hitting your face, but alas you can't drive around with the heat on full else you melt

Had one on my old Mazda3... It was great for those -35C days in Winter. Wake up, start my car, have breakfast, race outside, enter warm car and drive to work.
