Default SSC Ultimate Aero TT Is The Fastest Car In The World!

USA ftw!!images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Quote:
The facts are coming in fast and loose, but here's what we know: At around 9:00 am (PST), an 1,183 hp SSC Ultimate Aero TT driven by Chuck Bigelow made two passes, one at 257 mph the other at 254 mph -- they're averaging 'em at 255 mph. The official record held by the Koenigsegg CCX is 242 mph. The unofficial record held by the Veyron is 253.4 mph. This makes the American car the official champ. USA! USA! More details when we get 'em. Related posts here and here.

SSC Ultimate Aero TT?

Where'd they come up with that? Also, as said on the comments on the page you linked to, is this really a street legal production car?

Big deal. $10 bucks say that it was a very scary, unstable, uncomfortable ride at that speed.

Veyron reached 253mph on a 5.6 mile stretch of Ehra-Lessein in Germany.

SSC reached 257mph on a 1.5 mile stretch of public highway in America.

hmmmmmmm..............

The test-driver said that "if there was additional straight pavement on which to accelerate, the top speed would have been considerably higher and if anyone challenges your record there is tons left on the table"

The SSC would've gone even faster if they had a proper testing facility with more pavement to work with.

Maybe uncomfortable, but certainly not unstable or scary. One, it has gone through extensive wind tunnel and shakedown testing and I'm sure it produces enough downforce to be stable. Second, anyone who drives ANY car (be it the Veyron) at 250mph+ and say it was not "scary" should have their head examined.

Thank you nist7. It beats the Veyron on paper? No, it beats it in reality images/smilies/lol.gif. Sure the Veyron beats the SSC in luxury, but evidently not in outright performance.

Its funny to see how the Veyron fan boys are insiting... but but but, but the veyron this the veyron that... images/smilies/lol.gif

I love the veyron too, and would probably chose it over the SSC, but I haven no problem "accepting" that it is not the official fastest car in the world. No need to make up ridiculus claims that the SCC will fall apart etc etc..

Im no veyron fan, in fact, i think the veyron is too fat and ugly. But having said that, it is the ultimate supercar without a doubt, and so what if the SSC Ultimate Aero TT is the fastest car in the world, chances of u doing 250mph is very slim, both on test track or highway.

Therefore topspeed is totally irrelevant, id rather take a more focused car like McLaren F1 or a Carrera GT. And if top speed is irrelevant in everyday's driving, then what is the point of having the SSC Ultimate Aero TT?? The veyron will beat it comfortabally in everything else such as reliability, traction in the wet etc.., its more useable and definetely more of a GT car than the SSC Ultimate Aero TT.

Despite all that, kudos for the SSC Ultimate Aero TT for beating the beyron. The Americans never had a problem building stuff thats fast on the straight, the question really is.... does it handle ? how does it perform on a track?
