I believe the SR20 is iron block. Which is why it weighs so much....well partly anyway.

Its not a conversion, its what the car came with, a Nissan RB30. It was built like that. GM contracted Nissan to design and supply 3 Litre RB engines to Holden in Australia to put in their VL serries of Commodores. That what I have. I put the twincam head on it, so stave off a few design faults with the single cam heads in regards to cooling.

Anyway its my day to day car that can tow, has a back seat for....stuff and a big boot. the Alfa Romeo and the, uh, "project" are the toys.

RB30 Hybrid......niiiiiiice!! RB30's are pretty much indestructable. No fair though, the VL weighs 1265kg, my Silo weighs around 1400kg!!

On the left is a cast iron CA18DET block, and on the right is a SR20DET block. Check the size diffrence. Yes the SR20 is made of much lighter alloy, but there is more of it These used to be in my junk pile, the CA18 I gave to my mother to turn into a plant pot....

As for that SR20 block, the victim of a block warping at 290kw-ish
