^ I fucking hate people who can't figure out round abouts. They are way better than 4 way stops but some people just manage to fuck everything up for everyone on them.

Just now was comming back home, traffic's not bad but there are plenty of cars on the road to not be able to do just switch lanes at will to go faster. I'm in the left lane doing about 60 (limit is 50) and there is a Jeep in front of me and there is a car next to me in the middle lane. This idiot in a Cheyenne pulls right up to my bumper and just sits there. I could understand someone in a car who can only see me but dude you are in an SUV you can EASILY see over my roof that there is another SUV infront of me and I have absolutely nowhere to go. When I was exiting the highway he was doing the same thing to someone else even though at this point he could have easily gotten around them (it's not illegal to undertake here AFAIK).

Roundabouts are one hell of a good invention, and they certainly sort the wheat from the chaff in terms of traffic awareness. images/smilies/wink.gif

Here we go. It's all well, the system flows.

I agree 100% ... especially big ones with more than one lane ...

But for that situation, I can totally tell you what happend there. She really didn´t see the black A4 because she only looked short before (and short in lengh) and only saw the white van and then assumed there was nothing behind it. And then she was all like "where the fuck did that come from, I did look and saw nothing" ...

Not trying to excuse it ... just trying to explain it. It´s a often seen mistake, people asuming that because they can´t see behind something like a truck or van, that nothing is there ...

Well, the other way is to go around them with all four tires boiling, but that's less common. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif images/smilies/lol.gif

Every time I see a roundabout here I find myself thinking, "Hey, a skidpad!" images/smilies/mrgreen.gif images/smilies/lol.gif

Seriously, though, a roundabout really requires a greater level of driver competence than is generally found in the US. Plus the damn things can be lethal for motorcyclists. On top of which, a lot of the ones they put up in the US are either improperly designed or improperly constructed.

Greetings, lip
That same thing happened to me yesterday. I was driving inside the roundabout when this woman goes straight right in front me without looking to her left. I horned at her and she suddenly realized there was other cars inside the roundabout. Then she starts shacking nervous and doubting if she should've continued driving forward or stopped the car. images/smilies/lol.gif

Having just got back from a country road trip, I can guarantee that nothing irritates me more while driving on country roads than people who can't maintain a constant speed. I was stuck for the last 30km's or so, coming back into town, behind some numpty in a Camry. The whole way he was pottering along at about 90km/h, would suddenly speed up to 100km/h (speed limit on this particular road), and then hit the brakes to go back to about 90 for no reason whatsoever. Couldn't do anything about it, because that particular section is quite twisty, with plenty of blind corners and no real overtaking opportunities. Finally got rid of him (older person, surprise, surprise) at the first major intersection.

Bloody annoying! images/smilies/wacko.gif images/smilies/wacko.gif images/smilies/wacko.gif

1. My private school's driver was driving one of those "half-buses", the converted E350 type. He went through a yellow light... A 5 ton passenger car, and destroyed the front end of a '93 Civic. Our bus had a scratch on the side, compared to the other man nearly dying, if he had inched forward a bit more. Almost everyone fell out of their seats, for some reason, on the bus. Another guy was playing his PSP, and thought the bus had just hit a bump. As for me, I had wedged my 6'4 frame so tightly into the space available to me, with my knees jamming against the seat in front of me, I barely moved an inch.

2. My grandmother was driving my grandfather's '06 Avalon. (A true retiree's car.) He was going to pass the car along to me... Except my grandmother ran a red light, getting hit on the side of the trunk by an escalade and spinning into the opposing lane. She got away with mild whiplash, while having destroyed the car beyond repair.

3. My grandfather ran over a pothole in China, wrecking the rear axle. It was in the dead of winter, and I was three years old. In the end, my family ended up staying at a hot spring resort.

4. A guy in a Honda Pilot repeatedly honked his horn at me, while I waited to turn right into a busy street. So, of course, I casually let the window down, stuck my arm out, elbow at 90 degrees, and flicked him off. (*This is in America, with the middle finger, for all you Europeans here, in case you didn't know.) As it turns out, it was some aggro hippie man in his late 20's, who got out of his car to scream at me.

*Yeah.. I don't know much about European people. Hot Fuzz WAS British, yes?

I sometimes try that, but I only end up going straight. Wait, thats understeer.

The ones around here are 2 laned ones, and there are always accidents on them. People misjudge the timing (I've got it down, know spacing for the roundabouts here, ect). Some Tundra turned out in front of me at the last minute and an accident almost resulted. The single lane roundabouts here have no problems.

Here people are a bit better at roundabouts it seems.. But they're still not great. Seriously, if you can see another car entering on the opposite side.. You DON'T have to stay and wait for him to drive by. You don't actually need that big a hole to get in..

They could be really efficient if people had any idea how to use them properly.. :b

Honking your horn at some idiot can be pretty satisfying at least. The worst kind is the ones who are not wrong enough for me to honk at them.. But enough to get me annoyed.. :b

And if i ever get to make the law.. I'm going to make driving licenses for bicycles mandatory.. :b

Seen today:

Bicycle "Geisterfahrer" (wrong side of the street)! images/smilies/wacko.gif

I have a racing bicycle, and I like to drive fast with it. I can only imagine the possible outcome of a head-on crash between me cycling at 40km/h and a senile guy like this: A 60km/h head-butt. Ouch. images/smilies/mellow.gif

Greetings, lip

Except, unfortunately, you instantly become a cock when you drive one.

And Lips, there's something in between that guy, and waiting till the next car is half a roundabout away before you drive images/smilies/tongue.gif

I've crashed in a roundabout once, not my fault thankfully, but some blind bat driving a VW Caravelle.

i came around the roundabout, about to exit it, and boom, a lady hits me in the side. (i'm blue car)

red car is the lady, she was on her way into the roundabout and hit me on my way out, she's in a tall VW Van, she can easily look over the island, and see me, but she don't...

purple line represents where she claimed i came from... i wonder if she was on drugs... either way, purple is also completly legal, as there's two lanes on the opposite side of the roundabout... so she'd be in the wrong either way.

Which the insurance company agreed with, and i got my car fixed with no cost on my side images/smilies/mrgreen.gif
