TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
Published: December 2nd, 2005

530 hp / 390 kW, 740 Nm, 0-200 km/h in 12.5 seconds, Vmax 323 km/h: TechArt Automobildesign turns the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet into one of the world’s fastest convertible cars.

After the conversion the 3.6 litre biturbo boxer engine performs 530 hp / 390 kW at 6,600 rpm and produces a maximum torque of enormous 740 Nm at 3,850 revs only. By complying with the strict D4 emission standard the TechArt tune-up proves that optimal performance and environmental compatibility don’t have to contrast sharply.

The road performances of the tuned 911 Turbo Cabriolet are outstanding: From 0 - 100 km/h the car only takes 3.7 seconds. After 12.5 seconds the TechArt convertible is 200 km/h fast. The 323 km/h maximum speed require optimally balanced aerodynamics.

Using a wind tunnel the TechArt designers developed aerodynamic-enhancement components which not only produce optimal aerodynamic downforce but which also lend the Turbo Cabriolet an unmistakable appearance.

They molded a front spoiler to fit on the stock bumper which reduces the lift at the front axle. Its aerodynamic counterpiece for the rear axle is a new wing profile for the standard pop-up rear spoiler. Also this wing got its precision tuning in the wind tunnel to further improve the downforce at the rear axle. The outer sides of the rear apron are visually upgraded with special covers. The TechArt side skirts optimize the air flow between the wheels and make the 911 Turbo Cabriolet look lower.

The TechArt Vario suspension, developed jointly with Bilstein Racing Service on various racetracks such as the north circuit of the Nürburgring and the Hockenheimring, offers a sporty yet comfortable ride. Contrary to conventional coil-over suspensions the TechArt Automobildesign’s innovative solution not only offers the possibility to lower the ride height individually by up to 30 millimeters on front and rear axle; the TechArt Vario sport suspension also comes with sport shock absorbers with adjustable bound and rebound. Together this allows the suspension to be set up to the individual preferences of each driver and to the specific use of the car – on the road or on the racetrack.
The TechArt/Bilstein struts are further equipped with modified pivot points for the sway bars and with special suspension mounts.

Another large part of the sporty handling of the TechArt-tuned 911 Turbo Cabriolet can be credited to the especially light one-piece TechArt Formula five-spoke wheels. The TechArt GT street S 911 Turbo Cabriolet comes with these light-alloy wheels in size 8.5Jx19 in front and in size 11Jx19 on the rear axle.

TechArt technology partner Continental supplies the perfect high-performance tires for the TechArt GT street S in the ContiSportContact 2 Vmax. They are mounted in size 235/35 ZR 19 on the front axle and in size 315/25 ZR 19 in the rear.

The TechArt interior program for the 911 Turbo comprises exclusive fully leather interiors and numerous sporty accessories. The product lineup ranges from various versions of an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel with airbag to aluminum foot rest, pedals and shifter to stainless-steel sill plates with TechArt logo.

I like the shape of the front spoiler - but they should do it as a one-piece replacement front bumper - tacked on bits of plastic are awful imho. Not a fan of those headlight covers either. The black wheels however are terrific - as, of course, is the turbo motor...

Get rid of the headlight covers, un-chunkify the wing, get rid of the orange detailing in the cabin and it'll look great.

I like it, except for the front headlight covers, makes it look like a 5 dollar add on....

The interior is pretty cool, the orange trim is bit over the top, but I would take it.
