Default The cars you learned to drive on

So I'm excited to start driving school tomorrow and I was wondering what kind of cars other people acquired their skills on. I'll be driving a Citroen C1 and I think it's better than the Logan some other schools have. And no, there aren't any schools with Sanderos, at least not in my vecinity images/smilies/lol.gif

I have a really good one, but I'll wait until I can get a pic of the actual vehicle.

I think I drove an Opel Astra and Vectra.

Truck license I drove with few different Scanias. Sitting top of a big ass turbo is awesome.

Since I won't count offroad excursions, mostly my mom's 1997 Chrysler minivan and my dad's (now mine) 1997 Ford F150.

Back in the days when I was first learning to drive (before I had my nasty bike accident and didn't drive anything for years and years) my instructor had a Fiesta, which was quite nice, and then a Mitsubishi Colt (I quite liked that). I had my own car too, but it was a 1983 Datsun Cherry and it was quite awful. When I started driving again a bit back, I went with BSM in one of their godawful 1.2 diesel Corsas. I hated it, nasty, knackered and underpowered thing it was. I had a few issues, so yet again I stopped learning. A couple of months ago, I started again. New instructor, new Corsa 1.3 CDTi, much better experience. It's a lovely little engine and I'm actually going to miss it when I eventually pass my test - which I'm taking for the very first time next month, so fingers crossed!

Of course, I now have my own car again, Gerald the Triumph Herald 1200. The difference between the Corsa and the Herald is like the difference between chalk and chicken tikka masala, but all cars are different images/smilies/biggrin.gif

So in some countries you can learn with somebody else other than the driving instructor?

^ wow, resize that Mazda images/smilies/ohmy.gif

Well, my driving teacher replaced his car halfway through my lessons, so I've learned on two cars:
the first was a godawful '98 Mitsubishi Carisma, the gear knob felt like something from plastic, preferably an old computer joystick.
Looked something like this
http://www.autoplenum.de/Bilder/P/p0000498/MITSUBISHI/MITSUBISHI-Carisma-GDI-Fleet--1997-1998-.jpg

Then I learned (and passed my driving test) on a brand new Toyota Corolla. It was a much better car than the Carisma, although it felt a bit like a cushion on wheels.

The first car was a Golf 5 1.9 TDi, very boring to drive and quite battered. Then, during my course, it was replaced by a new Citroen C4. I don't know why exactly, but I didn't like the Citroen at all: the "you-turn-the-wheel-and-the-middle-stays-where-it-is" thing is weird, has a zillion buttons on it which in the driving school you can't use since the instructor will mock, and I couldn't get used to the different visibility all around after the Golf for quite a while.

First drove around an empty parking lot on my dad's lap when I was 5 in a late 80's GMC Safari:

First drove on my own in a '96 Plymouth Voyager (my current car):

First took driving lessons in a 2000 Toyota Corolla:

And took some more driving lessons when the teacher upgraded his Corolla to this Corolla:

Citroen C2 and MKV Golf for cars.

And for bikes, I started with some little 125cc, of which I can't remember what it was, for the first two lessons, and then a Honda CBF500 for the rest of the lessons.
