Default The Classic Cars Thread

There must be some classic car enthusisast here...

I think we should have a place where we could gather all stuff related to classic cars, that's why I made this topic.

Please post here anything that has something to do with classics and anything you think is a classic:

- If you own a classic, please tell us and show some pics
- If you happen to see a cool classic, feel free to tell about it
- It would be also great to discuss classic cars which you love or would like to own (pics and specs are welcome, indeed)
- And if someone has been to (or is going to go in) a classic car show or something like that (for example Goodwood Festival of Speed), he must share it with us
- And so on, anything about classics goes images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It really would be wonderful to discuss classics. Let's keep this thread alive, let's keep classics alive! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

BTW, if you happen to be a classic car enthusiast, check out the "I saw..." thread in the General Automotive forum. There are plenty of nice classics there... images/smilies/biggrin.gif

----- images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif UPDATE images/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif -----

Every Sunday I will introduce a some way remarkable classic car in this thread. I hope that we can have some good discussion about them. This way we can also pay tribute to some great cars... images/smilies/biggrin.gif

So, I'll start posting...

I would like to own a Jag Mark II. IMO it just is a ultimate classic. It's just so beutiful images/smilies/love.gif and kinda sporty (in 60s style images/smilies/biggrin.gif )

Here's a pic:
http://img190.echo.cx/img190/5286/jaguarmk27cy.jpg

And interior:
http://img127.echo.cx/img127/3186/newpic04jagint6xv.jpg

Mark II was built between 1959 and 1967. There are three engines: 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8. I'd like to have the 3.4 one, it's not too big and not too small. It has enough horsepowers (210) and is nearly as fast as the 3.8.

I think there was a review in Top Gear series two, episode 4... Yes, with Hammond driving it. images/smilies/smile.gif

I think this is one of the best cars there is... Maybe someday I have enough money to buy and run one. Of course prices go higher all the time, for example in 15 years it may slip out of reach... images/smilies/sad.gif

I kinda agree with Clarkson on this one. I love the looks of E-type Jag. Preferably the cabrio images/smilies/smile.gif From what I heard (also from Clarkson's vids images/smilies/smile.gif) it also goes well. I can't imagine myself owning one though. It's pretty expensive already (and not gonna be cheaper in future for sure), and if I had that amound of spare money, I think there are more reasonable options.
But if money is not a problem... Lambo Miura images/smilies/love.gif

EDIT: For a more realistic option (and I disagree with Clarkson on this one images/smilies/smile.gif), I would definitely like to own an air-cooled Porsche someday. Maybe sounds as "easy" choise, but well, it kinda is. Maybe the easiest option to own something classic. Plenty of cars in second-hand market as well as spare parts available + reasonable (for a classic) price. Also you don't get JUST the looks, it also performs very well and is pretty reliable. A 964 would be perfect considering value for money images/smilies/smile.gif

My father has got a '52 Willys CJ (has been used by the Belgian army)

I definitely would like to get a classic such as:
realistic: Cord 812, Tatra 603, Facel Vega(?),...
keep on dreaming: Duesenberg, Avions Voisin, ... images/smilies/w00t.gif

My dream-classic would be the Porsche 356. Although I'm also a huge fan of Eleanor images/smilies/wink.gif

My dads got a Saab 96 -62, which i think i one of the most beautiful cars ever built. The engine is a three-cylinder twostroker that pumps out 38 hp and a noise that makes you think "who needs V8:s anyway?".

The condition is very far from mint. There's dozens of detail to fix, someone has painted the hood (including the chrome) black, the rear bumper is missing, you start it with a screwdriver, there's a hole in the dash (probably from a tachometer) and the paintjob is simply awful. Still, its the most charming vehicle I've ever driven.

Here's a picture that the last owner took.

Well, I am the "lucky" owner of this car, I'm sure it can be considered as a classic soon... A 1979 MK3 Ford Capri 3,0 V6.

Someone really should search the owner and then buy and save that... It's a shame how many wonderful cars are out there, just rujsting away. images/smilies/cry.gif And that MG is actually quite cheap to run, Of course it needs some restoration, but still... images/smilies/drool.gif

I've always liked that Saab. It's just so sympathetic. I read a big article about it some time ago in the Finnish classic cars mag called Mobilisti. That is really a classic you can afford to own, that makes it so great. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It actually has 48K on the clock, so it's barely run in...
