Yes, I've seen some screaming deals out there on some exotics, but most would still be financial ruin for me to purchase right now.

Unfortunately I don't have a link to it unfortunately since I saw this a few months back, but I've seen a Porsche Carrera GT sell for around the $240K mark. It was in excellent condition. Not bad considering a brand new model normally cost twice that. images/smilies/wacko.gif

Here is a murcielago at $105,000

Reserve not met, but it will sell for less than 145 I'm fairly confident.

The leather comes from cats, not cows.

On the Evo boards they have stories of 2008 Evolution X MR with very low miles going for mid-20's.

That is a drop of over 10K in one year. Or roughly 30%.

Sure it isn't an exotic but it sure is a heck of a car for the money.

There's a 1997 AM (not sure what kind) for 50k and with only 4k miles.

Not really the same thing, but Aussies can now pick up new Japanese cars cheaper than they are in Japan. Considering they were paying close to double not too long ago, that's a good deal. A new GT-R, for example, cn be had for less in Oz. I'm sure prices will rise when new stock makes its way over.

Oh, and camera equipment is cheaper in Oz too.
F'n crazy.

I think it's caused by the high Japanese currency that's making Japanese goods cost more domestically. Also, Japan is really an export country, so its economy really depends on how much goods people from the rest of the world order. Things are not selling well in North America (I'm in the wholesaling business, and so far people are ordering very little), so it's not rare to see huge discounts. For example, Nikon cameras are actually selling a bit cheaper than in Japan.

Bloody hell. Lamborghini for £50,000?!
I bought my car for £2000.
Therefore my car is only 25 times less valuable than the Lambo!
YAY!
Wait... why am I cheering?

Yeah I was just talking about due to the exchange rate - prices haven't changed in either country, just the exchange rate, and it takes time for price rises to filter through. It doesn't really affect anyone (yet) unless they're planning on shipping a car from one country to another or are considering whether to buy their camera domestically or OS etc.

as long as cars like that are still out of the average Joe's reach (<25k€) I'm not really interested in a Carrera GT that's ONLY 240 K

don't know how wide spread cardoen is, but over here they have an action that when you buy a "bigger" car (like an audi A4), you can choose a 2nd smaller car (like a citroen C2) for free. no restrictions what so ever, if you want to sell the 2nd car on the cardoen driveway, go ahead

NOW THAT IS AN ACTION!

The good news: The higher end cars now are getting stupid cheap.

The bad news: Servicing and repair costs are still the same.

If you couldn't afford the servicing when new.... well, it's probably even less likely that you can afford it now.

yeah they did that a while ago, but it meant you had to buy this monstrosity

http://media.paultan.org/img/Hyundai_H1_Starex_1.jpg
only to get a KIA or some other piece of crap nobody wants...

I know that now they've changed it around a bit, but it's still "buy 1 good car, get another crap car you don't want for free"

We've had "buy one get one free" car sales in the US off and on for about 25 years now...

An old saying goes "if you can't afford the car new, you can't afford the car used."

It's why even though many Ferrari's now ARE "dirt cheap" you still don't want to own one. Consider many of them had/have hand made body panels if you get in a wreck.

yeah especially new cars,

BMW M3 coupe in the USA 58.000 $ 44.000 EU straing price
BMW M3 coupe ieurope 91.000 $ 70.000 EU starting price

33.000 $, 26.000 EU price diffrence ?
the prices are without tax.

that probably why in some parts of europe you see lots of US spec cars, they say it's cheaper to pay all the import taxes + delivery than buy new in ieurope, i've heard the delivery cost is 3,000 $ us to europe and 3 weeks 'till the boat arrives
