Update: All parts, including "finds", are here+cleaned. (Note: She is doing most of the work, not me, so some details will be missing). Engine reassembly 1/4 done today, piston and rings, crank, valves, springs, etc. Paint purchased in case she likes the bike too much to sell it. Tyre replaced, wheels balanced (took a f***ing long time too images/smilies/tongue.gif), two out of six exhaust baffles removed (heard from a Honda bike forum that six-baffle pipes are extremely restrictive), fender painted.

Another update: Restoration going very faster, far faster than was anticipated. Most major systems basically done, still alot of work to do but not nearly as much as was thought. images/smilies/thumbup.gif for Honda durability.

Sadly, no. I haven't been able to upload anything since I existed on Finalgear because neither myself nor my closer friends have digital cameras (a couple of them are photo "purists", the rest are just cheap images/smilies/tongue.gif) and when I tried to use phyrefile on my crappy little laptop it didn't work for some reason. Never diagnosed it because there was never much to upload. Only thing I could ever post on Finalgear in pictures was in fact my avatar.

I suppose I could let you have some album space on my server. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Get yourself a camera, they're cheap enough. And trust me, if you ever have an accident in the US you will wish you had them.

I'll be getting one as soon as possible, mostly due to the accident factor, almost forgot but you can go through hell without pics of an accident here.
Sadly i'm now basically skint after helping my dear friend out with her bike, so it might be a month or so from now.

I really shouldn't have bought the Yamaha, but it was so nice being able to ride again after finishing the restoration...

So, when do you leave Houston and return to the land of Londonistan?

Between a month and two months- due mainly to the kindness of friends and uncertainty of the pitiful job I have back in the USSK, my visit went from one month to 2-3. It's been nice here, went to see quite a bit, caught up with friends, etc- only things I haven't done are to finish up this restoration and go to the shooting range again.

Somebody wrote up something about removing paint. While I haven't used this on aircooled engines that are painted it works on everything else I have used it on. Simply use a sand-blaster filled with baking soda. It removes paint without damaging the metal and is easily cleaned up.

Decided to buy a new helmet. As the Shoei XR-1100 is out next month, I got a cracking deal on a Shoei XR-1000. Unfortunately it is bucketing it down here so I haven't road tested it yet.

I have the RF-1000 and I love it. If Shoei fits your head then I'm sure you will be very happy with it.

I'm just pissed that the 1100 isn't coming to the US, something I don't understand since California alone is one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world and has the only two Dainese stores in the US.

I definitely have a Shoei head, I can't find an Arai that fits me properly, they are either too tight in some places or too loose in others, sometimes both.
I have road tested it now and I am very pleased. It is light, comfortable, quiet and has good ventilation.

Blergh, just had my second crash. images/smilies/dry.gif

It's raining, the road is quite wet and I'm riding along on the Yamaha.
A green light in front of me turns red as I'm ~100m away, I brake - as I thought - quite gently, but apprantly still too strong. Front wheel locks up and slides for 1 or 2 meters before the bike falls over.
Anyway, I was already pretty slow when I fell, so the only damage (that I noticed, at least) is a cracked tach housing.

And I got completely soaked.

^ wowza, glad you are ok and the bike is too (relatively) images/smilies/comfort.gif

My dad just got a Shoei helmet to replace his old KBC one he wrecked in his crash. It's an XR-1000 as well, he got it relatively cheap online because it's last year's design. My mum has a KBC as well with an aweome bug splatter just above the visor. I've got a Nitro N510V which I adore, and is relatively cheap, considering I cannot legally ride yet.
My sister thinks we are all nuts.

It seems to be the bit that takes the brunt on these bikes. I broke the same bit when I fell off.

^ Mine's not even that bad, it's just knocked over way to the left, and the crack is on the cylindrical part that houses all the mechanics.
I guess you slid quite a bit on the side for the edge to get torn off like that?

It was really pretty harmless... good thing we didn't have anything repaired on the Yammie after the first crash yet, I guess. images/smilies/lol.gif

I smashed the tach housing on my CB750 when I crashed it years back - it's pretty common to destroy instruments when a non-faired bike goes down. Chances are you also bent the handlebars at least a little.

You may want to try a slightly different braking technique when coming to a halt in the rain - try applying the rear brake a little more and before you start applying the front brake. This pitches more weight onto the front tire before you begin braking with it - and if the rear locks up immediately you're more likely to be able to keep it upright.

Good to hear you're okay. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the advice. images/smilies/smile.gif

This reminded me that I could maybe look into advanced riding/safety courses as Christmas or birthday presents for me. images/smilies/think.gif
