Its a cool helmet, but I would never use it unless I was riding this bike...

Mmmm, Italian model....
On a completely different topic: We have an indoor motorcycle salvage yard in Dallas, called L&L Cycle. It's run by a couple of old Harley biker types; I was there today looking for some parts for my Nighthawk S. Here's a couple of pics: More at: http://www.dallasdrivers.org/gallery...om/landlcycle/

On a side note, is the stunts that guy does possible because of his riding skill, or partly because of the bike? The mini drifts in particular look amazingly fun, i just never see any sport bike people trying such. Maybe its the tires??? |

The rest of the CX500 Turbo is under that fairing. He also has a complete Yamaha Seca Turbo for sale; in addition he has FOUR CBXs with one for sale.
If I see one there, I'll snag it if you want - I'm going to be buying an entire Nighthawk S motor from him, just to have spares. Can you get me the part number for your speedo? That'll help me, because if you look carefully in the other pictures, he has entire bushel baskets of dismounted speedos and tachs.

The needle itself is the exact same as the tach, and looks like: The gauge plate is part# 37236-323-700, which is definitely discontinued, and looks like: (Different part number shown there from a '77 CB550F, instead of my '76.) I've got one of those right now that's crusty as hell and pitted, which won't look good against the shiny one I just bought. For about $40 on eBay Stores, I just might buy the entire speedometer...but I've already wrapped up replacing the face on my current speedo and don't feel like wasting another one. If you could find just a needle at least, it'd be great.

Okay. Little secret about Honda part numbers here:
Honda part numbers are in the format of XXXXX-YYY-ZZZ, where: X = catalog number of the type of part. In the above post, the speedometer cup's number is 37236. This is the Honda standard number, and it will be the same across all models that use that class of part. Y = code number for the model it originally appeared on. 390 is the code for your early 550, 426 is the code for a mid production CB750K (K5-7), my Nighthawk S is MJ1. There are also generic model codes for things like oil filters that fit a wide range of models or such. Z = the revision or variation code for the part. For example, 000 is the original part, 001 might be first revision, etc., etc. This number seems to have other permutations, but nobody's ever figured it out. BUT, you can be reasonably certain that a 37236-426-001 would fit where a 37236-426-000 was originally called for. As an example of the above, your speedometer part number is: 37200-390-771 37200 - Speedometer 390 - Early CB550F (or whatever used it before the 550F - I suspect that it was originally shipped on a 350 or 305 with that code) 771 - Variation code And my Nighthawk S's speedo part number is: 37200-MJ1-771 37200 - Speedometer MJ1 - Nighthawk S 771 - Variation code (maybe 'US, Dual Labelled, version 1?") This tends to help out a lot on parts interchange with other Hondas. It's amazing how much of the stuff on Hondas is really parts bin engineering. Sure you don't want to upgrade to the late 550/750 gauges? There's a lot more of them.
