That was pretty damn helpful, a +1 rep seems measly by comparison. (Which I can't give to you now anyway.)

Seeing as my current speedo was ripped off God knows what newer bike, but worked pretty well when I got the bike, and since I only need the needle and the chrome backing, it won't make much of a difference where those two parts come from. If you think you can find them off a newer 550/750 on your next trip to motorcycle Valhalla, then I'd appreciate it either way. images/smilies/thumbup.gif

I'll take a look. Do you have a pic of your gauge mounting plate? I don't mean the cups, I mean the plate the cups mount to. If that's the same as the 750, it should work. I may even have a spare in either the souvenir (I keep a crushed part or three off of every bike I've crashed and survived) or the old spare parts bin (never know when you'll find out that some newer bike uses an older Honda part - I've found several 426-code parts in my MJ1-code bike).

Also, just updated the prior post with some additional info.

Should be part #37211-390-000; two screws per gauge cup. Here's a crappy picture off my bike:

And here's a picture from an eBay auction for a 1975. Both have the same parts numbers.

Okay, just did a little checking and refreshing. 390 *is* apparently the model code for your bike.

I'll see what I can find next time I'm down there.

Had my first decent ride on my new bike today. It's just so much better than my old one. You can slap it into 6th at 30mph and it has enough torque to keep pulling at a decent rate. You don't even have to change gear to overtake. The bike is also very confidence inspiring on the corners. I've already got my chicken strips down to about 1cm and that wasn't even pushing it.
The only problem I've found is that the headlights appear to be wired the wrong way round. Instead of the dipped on alone normally, you just get the high beams on it's own and both when you flick the switch. The bulbs can only go in one side and the wires can only go one way so it isn't a simple thing to swap. I'm guessing that they are plugged in incorrectly on the main loom as the last guy had heated grips which he has unwired. I'm not bothering to try and sort it myself as it is under warranty.

I'd actually love a scooter. They would be perfect for commuting to work (cheap to buy, run and insure). The only problem is that I am fat and would look ridicolous on a scooter... images/smilies/smile.gif (my bike is too much fun for me to care what I look like...)

I used to assemble scooters back in the day, and take them for their first test ride. Scooters are sweet.

I kinda dig the suits and the clean-cut, soft-spoken attitudes...but c'mon, scooters? Nobody's going to take you seriously. Oh, and the Beatles are overrated.
