And finishing with just a couple of random... things.

This is a Daihatsu Hallo. I didn't know Daihatsu made bikes or that these gyro type 3 wheelers were made so long ago.

images/smilies/wub.gif Man, I really love Triumphs. I don't even care if they still break down and whatnot, they're the anti-Harley. With just as much mystique.
That's the beauty - the John Bloor Triumphs share NOTHING with the old ones, save for the Bonneville and Thunderbird styling. They *don't* break down, leak, or self-destruct any more. In fact, they're pretty good competition for the Big Three And A Half (since Kawa and Suzie merged their bike divisions).

An update: Got the rear cowl swapped out and realized that I hadn't gotten a good picture of the damage to it. Here it is.

If I ever get around to buying a newer bike, it would definitely be a Triumph. Either the Thruxton or the Scrambler, but I'd gladly take a regular old Bonneville.

Ahh, Bōsōzoku - Japanese working-class youth motorcycle gangs of the late 60s/early 70s. They mostly ride around slowly, waving flags and being rebellious in goofy cafe-racer/chopper combinations like only the Japanese can muster.

AND HELP ME OUT HERE, PEOPLE:

Is $1000 (approx.) too much to pay for a 1994 Yamaha Seca II 600 with 34 thousand miles on the odo?

Depending on the amount of "cosmetic damage" I'd be very happy to pay about $1,000 for that.

$1000 is an excellent price to pay for a Seca II - assuming the plastics and engine casings are intact. The Seca II was competition for the Bandit 600 when it came out, but almost nobody bought one, so plastics and such can be hard to get. Broken turn signals and scraped footpegs don't count.

Yup the Hinkley Triumphs are completely different then the old school Triumphs. I have heard from a couple of different sources that then the new Triumphs came out in the early 90s they specifically over engineered them because they knew they would have to overcome the stigma of the old Triumphs.

They have continued to do that since then and everyone I know who has had a new Triumph can't stop saying positive things about them.

I like every Triumph they make currently but the Thruxton, Street Triple and Rocket III are my favorites.

Well, the Yammy Seca got sold. images/smilies/cry.gif But here goes round two, I've found another one on Craigslist. This one's red, a 1997, 18,000 miles on the clock, light cosmetic damage, and $1800. The owner lives 30 min away but is willing to meet me here at the University for it.

http://images.craigslist.org/01021201040301030520080826d24b03ec4edf028efa00a63e.jpg

Spectre, could you sand off the damage off that cowl and repaint it? Or hell, I'd leave it on there. It'd be a nice "FUCK YOU" to everybody around, a little bit of motoring defiance.

No, because the gel coat is gone. But you can get more air scoops, and there were aftermarket ones at some point.

Or you could do a fiberglass repair.

Have you considered the competing model, the Suzuki Bandit? It's thought to be the better bike of the pair.

So remember that Yammy I mentioned, uh, two posts ago? Here's some more pics, including said "light cosmetic damage":

So I might offer $1000 and ride it without the fairing (images/smilies/love.gif naked bikes) for a while. What do you guys think?

Take the fairing off and you lose your lighting unless you spend the money on a lighting kit. Not the most economical proposal... Especially since that damage looks easily repairable by a plastic welder. Add in a body shop respraying it, and you could have it back on on a couple of days for under $200, depending on local pricing.

I've bought worse for more money, that's a pretty good deal.

What a bunch of bullshit. I'd say you've been more than willing to work with your neighbors idiotic requests, so hopefully the idiot does try something again. Pretty good of management to help you out too.

Huh, yesterday when I was at the local Yamaha dealership there was a red Seca II that looked exactly like that outside; without a front fairing and it had a Yoshi muffler. I wish I would've taken a picture now, but it was gorgeous. Sounded pretty good for an inline motor too. Anyway, you should definitely get it.

A little OT: I found out one of my coworkers owns one of these.

http://www.vintagemotorsports.net/vintagesite250r.JPG

He has a last year, liquid cooled, model. something like 40hp (from a 250cc in 1985!) and 280lbs. What a little death machine!!! Apparently when Honda ran them in the Baja back in the day they impressed Mickey Thompson so much that he very quickly made a 3-wheeler class.

Still not sure if i'd want one, just seems like a incomplete idea, but for those who like cheating death I'd say its pretty cool!

I think I've succeeded in re-corrupting a friend to get back into motorcycling. He used to have a Suzuki GS500 but he had to let it go for financial reasons. I let him take mine around the block and he said he was hooked all over again. What's even better is that he's found a 1982 version of mine for $1300. We can start our own Maxim gang! images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Yammy owners of the world, unite!

I'm taking a look at mine this afternoon. Hope the owner's desperate to get rid of it...
