Default The Return of MG

Just some pics of the new MG 7, the ZT replacement from the new MG website:

http://www.nacmg.com/range/images/mg7_8_big.jpg

http://www.nacmg.com/range/images/mg7_1_big.jpg

Must say, these models, although obviously based loosely on the old designs look good, and probably won't break within 5 minutes of using them.

I know MGs are crap and outdated cars (or were) but i've always had a soft spot for them and hope that these new models work and succeed.

I almost bought a MG ZR 160 because it was a great little car for the price. I hope the new ones keep that kind of British cheapness that made them great.

Yup. And would you look at that interior?

Maybe we'll see MG as the new Chinese Luxury badge. images/smilies/lol.gif

Still, hope they make a replacement for the MG TF, that would be fab.

Probably. And VW have their plants in China, so you are supporting the so called "communism" of China IF you buy a car from VAG, since China makes money for every car VW sells in China too. Further, if you're American, your taxes are used to pay back US loans to China.

Fact of the matter is that China is communist only in name, they still maintain some of the ideas, but China is de facto moving into market economy.

Might take a couple of years, but they will pass Japan, then they'll pass the US, and in another couple of years, they'll probably be were Korea is now when it comes to cars (which is quite far on the way, Korea makes rather good cars now, in essence), while Korea will be where Japan is today, and I do predict Japan will be in control of roundabout 50 % of the American manufacturers.

We'll see, but China is up and comming, and they won't stay communist for that long, I believe. They'll still be a dictatorship, though.

Some how China have morphed the arch capitalists - weird. They still have the iron grip on their citizens from the communist era, "best of both worlds" then. Not good result for the world me thinks.

If they make the MG as described it may well be be a good car for the price you can expect to pay, historically the steering wheel is on the wrong side for a prototype MG I notice.

I hear that in about 5 years time, Chinese cars will be selling in the US for about $10,000, cheaper than any car that the Japanese and Koreans make at the moment. That's why Toyotas and Hyundais are making slightly more luxurious cars now, because there is simply no competition with China when it comes to making inexpensive but pretty-good-quality products.

Yup. Labor rates are extremely low over there. It's actually cheaper to drag the fish up from the ocean in Norway, ship it to China, have it prepared, and shipped back to Norway, than to prepare it in Norway.

Way to go.

It looks good in the way that the 75 has always looked good. Let's hope it can survive as a nice quirky offering.

Two things: the interior has one colour too many, and, how is it that the rear wheel is spinning but the front one is stationary? And how does the front plate float like that?

Why did they call it the MG 7? images/smilies/blink.gif

Styling by a case of deja vu. If I recall correctly, this is almost exactly the same as the facelift they did before they went bust..

Last production Rover 75:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/19/Lastrover75.jpg/800px-Lastrover75.jpg

Pretty much, methinks.

I like the look of that interior, it's very old jag. A big slab of wood nailed into the car, that's what I know and love! images/smilies/biggrin.gif (It better not be plastic wood.. though). But isn't this meant to be the sports version?

That's true, never thought of that! I really hope they don't try to turn MG into...well..Old Jaguar! Even Jaguar don't do Jaguars like Jaguar anymore....if you know what i mean.
