Default The wacky engine conversion thread

This thread is for cars which have some wacky engine conversions (obviously). I will start with a car known as "Ferrambo". A 1960 Nash Rambler wagon powered by a 3.6l engine out of a Ferrari 360 modena. images/smilies/smile.gif

these come to mind:

Fiat 500 with an Alfa V6

http://news-images.caradisiac.com/IMG/jpg/6/9/1/2/0/Fiat-500-V6-Turbo-7.jpg

or the Ringmini, easily one of the fastest things on the ring, if you believe Dmotor, quick enough to beat Sabine in a 911...
it has a VTEC engine, and god knows how much horsepower Achim has managed to pump into it by now...

edit:
oh yeah, and if I ever win the lottery my Mini is gonna get an engine out of a 993 turbo images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

this was in hot rod magazine a couple times during the build, took about 2 years IIRC. the Engine and transaxle came out of a 360 that never made it back from the prom.images/smilies/blink.gif if I ever have kids they can get they're own damn carimages/smilies/lol.gif

While I dont like the shop that built it, heres one:
http://www.xzibitcentral.com/images/pimp_my_ride/pimp_my_ride_ep59-after.jpg

looks normal right? it is except for the duramax diesel v-8 under the hood. it makes 800 HP on biodiesel and will smoke a Lambo in the quarter mile, no pun intended

yea, thats why I said I didn't like the shop it came from, at least on this build they ignored the cappachino/karaoke/back-up camera/washing machine crap and just built a functional car. I'll see if I can dig up the vid of it beating the lambo

I always thought that they only build those embarassing cars when they´re on MTV... hard to imagine that people with skills like that would mostly just waste it on crap...

Model T with a Ford Rally engine:

Also once saw a picture of a Seven chassis with a Viper V10 craned into place. Been searching for that project ever since images/smilies/tongue.gif

Hmpf...seems silly of me to start separate threads about those now...

thats actually not as uncommon as you may think. Burnsville Off-Road used to specialize in this swap. Now they have shifted to swapping in 5.7 and 6.1L hemis, and they are also doing a 3.0 CRD Bluetec diesel from mercedes that is used in the new Grand Cherokees. if I had the $15k my jeep would have one of those.

Nascar prepped Buick v6. 500 naturally aspirated horsepower from an old pushrod, cast iron 3.8L v6 mounted in the middle of a Corvair.

whats so whacky? all corvairs are mid-engined, its mostly why the car was a failure due to the engine and gas tank being next to each other. they were deemed "unsafe at any speed". and as far is the motor goes they took out a GM 6 cylinder and replaced it with.....a GM 6 cylinder. and AN- fittings dont make a motor NASCAR prepped. Nascar hasn't used 6 cylinders since the 50s

Corvairs were actually rear-enginged.

I've always wanted one of these. Get a turbo 2.3 from a Stang or T-Bird and put it in a Ranger. Not wacky but interesting.

Another maybe minor point is the Corvair had various flat-6's, so the modified car had a different layout and engine type. I agree that it doesn't seem as wacky as some of the other cars posted though.
