After more than 60 vintage Mustangs were confiscated, Unique Performance is now filing for bankruptcy. And now it turns out their cars we're built by inmates using Bondo.

It was my understanding that after they were restored by unique performance, they were no longer FORDs, but unique performance cars. Therefore they could be considered "NEW" and have unique vin's and titles.

That's what I thought too. You can look at pics of their finished products, the vin plates have the company logos on them and everything.

Thats what they told people, it seems that wasn't actually the case. They've already been busted for title washing.

My audio isn't working at the moment, is this the same one where they mention that they managed to put 13 gallons of Bondo on the cars (each)?

Bondo is fine for small bits and patches, or for skimming the body to get a "perfectly" smooth panel (this is a trick done by any top show car).

What these guys were doing, so it appears, was using bondo to reshape the body like Kustomizers used to use lead on 49 Mercury's. Bondo doesn't stick that well and shouldn't be made any more than a 1/4 inch thick.

I've seen someone get a paint job in Mexico where the body men used a lot of bondo. First time the owner slammed the door shut, a sheet of paint and bondo slid off the car like ice off a roof. images/smilies/lol.gif

No, even if you don't like what they build, they actually can and do quality work.

Edit: wrong show on wrong channel. You must have been thinking of the show "Unique Whips" on speed. The guys that did "Pimp My Ride" have actually dropped their contract with MTV because they weren't allowed by MTV to do the work to their standards.

Thats Unique Autosport on Long Island and they're on SPEEDTV. As someone else said they actually do quality work. They're not throwing juice bars in the hatches and tvs in the oil pans of cars. images/smilies/lol.gif
