Interesting news spreading around various communities, but i'll just copy and paste what autoblog.com has to say. And the guy just curses a lot..
We're going to start this post by stating that domestic automakers have come a long way in improving the quality and durability of the cars they build. That said, cars are still built on Friday afternoon and every once in a while one not fit for public roads slips out. Unfortunately for General Motors, the owner of this Cadillac CTS-V that refuses to run properly is part of the team that runs a little site called Streetfire.net with a subscriber base for its user-posted videos in the millions. Cjonesy is his name, and this video he posted on Streetfire.net today documents the death throws of his 2006 Cadillac CTS-V with around 12,000 miles on his trip home from the PRI show. The CTS-V manages to limp home over a couple hundred miles, during which time cjonesy films himself cursing the car and its maker while never going faster than 60 mph with the pedal mashed on the floor. The tachometer died before he started recording and halfway through the LS1 V8 begins to rattle like its possessed by a demon. Cjonesy's monologue to the camera throughout the video is as funny as his car is tragic, but we warned there's some cursing. Cjonesy's a trooper though (for now) and posted the video to get feedback on what he or GM should do about the car. Well, GM already ordered one of its dealer's to replace a customer's car today, so while the wallet's open... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2...a500aa04d9.htm Last edited by Dark_Templer_102; December 30th, 2006 at 4:19 AM. |

LOL, that's pretty entertaining, if sad shit although I was not at all surprised it shook like a motha and smelled bad. The PCM was probably shot and the poor thing ran on 4 cylinders, if that. I feel the guy's pain and I hope the video will make GM do right by him. I had to lemon a car some years back and the aggravation is almost not worth the hassle with all the stupid, one-sided arbitrations, arguing the obvious and so on. The eventually did buy it back but it took 14 months, a court order (I actually took the judge for a ride), and easy 10 years of my life.

Wow.
Now, I am certainly not trying to defend GM here, but from what I know of cars with these powerplants, if there is a problem, the PCM will but the car into "limp home mode". Top speed is severely restricted, etc. It sucks when you have to limp home over a hundred miles, but what can you do? I think he is a dumbass if he doesn't realize the car is artificially limiting its performance to try to keep itself from totally grenading - 48mph is better than zero. At night. 100 miles from home. I think GM should be falling all over themselves to replace his car. |

That thing sounds like an industrial agitator.
I'm amazed that a $50000+ car can still be such a piece of shit. I love the LS series of motors, but that's just unacceptable.

I wonder if he read the part in the manual about the new car break-in period? He complains about the engine being messed up, yet he still continues to floor it. Yeah that's a smart move.
Even if it was just a bad car, it's understandable. There are thousands of CTS-Vs out there. You can't expect every single one to be completely trouble free. Heck, I'm sure just about every Land Rover owner could make a video like this. But anyways, lemons are nothing new. You know you're taking a risk of getting one when you buy a new car.

Sounds like it was in limp mode to me. Reduced power running rough etc. I assume he has onstar on that thing right so just call onstar and they will tow him wherever for free.
OH ok i just finished watching the rest of it. I guess he did try and call onstar. I mean I guess if he wanted to make a point by showing this to caddilac then that is fine but it is not how I would have handled the situation. I would have pulled over to the side of the road and gotten On star to get me a rental and then reimburse for trip interuption. Last edited by British_Rover; December 30th, 2006 at 9:22 PM. |

that's what he was trying to do. Of course, he didn't want to have to get a rental to have to drive the 150 miles back to "Bumfuck, GA" to get his car back.

But i feel for this guy, as also owning a f'ing lemon car, the 03 Jaguar S-Type V8 and having your car break down on a weekend is no f'ing fun, especial in a city far away from home. if you see the video, you see that the problem with Onstar and GM roadside service (and most car road side service btw) is they will tow you to the nearest dealer for free but thats its. And if it is a weekend, the car will be dropped off at the shop and you need to get a rental to get home. And when they open, you have to go back to THAT DEALERSHIP and deal with them, or arrange your own towing to your town. That is a reason why i still have AAA, saved my ass when i got hit in San Jose but i live in San Francisco. MB towed me to MB in San Jose, i wanted the car fixed in San Francisco. The tow from SF to SJ was about quoted to be almost $150+, with AAA, $0. The issues with the car i think is it went in to limp mode so him trying to gun it is not smart, but from the sound of it its not the first time and i know how it feels to have a car break down over, and over again its just gets to you. The way its running is a lot like when my Jaguar TQ converter just failed, and pretty much caused the tranny to not shift so it was really ruff as it could not change gears when it wanted too. I mean it got him home at lest, but the f'ed up thing is the dealer still cant fix it. I mean i would pretty much lemon the car ASAP, get in hold of the BBB and start the move. But then again if you run Streefire.net, why not post it up and see if Caddy does not decide to drop off a new CTS-V.

Well yeah this car is well out of the break-in period. But he could have damaged it then and over time it just kept getting worse until it broke. (Like it says in owner's manual to avoid flooring it, driving hard, ect.) Seeing as this guy makes these videos of higher performance driving, I'm just wondering if he took it easy for the car's first few hundred miles. I can just picture him doing a burnout when leaving the dealership with his 'new toy', but I could be wrong.

Are you kidding? It doesn't matter if he floors it, because the engine was completely fucked up. There was smoke coming from the back and it ran as smooth as a tractor, top speed of 60mph. High performance driving? Yeah, right.
When the engine is in restricted mode it doesn't matter what you do with the pedal, thats what the restricted mode is for, protecting the engine from damage. Also I wouldn't worry too much about breaking the car in after 11.000 miles and such a lemon. I'm pretty sure he won't keep it for long anyway. |

GOD DaMN.
That engine was bucking like a son of a bitch. The only time I ever saw an engine buck that bad was when we swapped a 16v motor from a passat into my buddies Jetta. We didn't have the correct computer or wiring harness, his motor mounts were shot, and he had blown suspenion (he was such a cheap ass). Nothing was done right, and I gave up on the damn thing after 2 weeks... and a year later it still doesn't run up to par. /can't believe my father wants one of these. //completely aware this is a rare case, but still.

Well, after hearing what he said at the end, it was just a bad sensor. His driving in limp mode caused the other components to break.
The guy seemed like a bit of a tool. Cars break down, I know it's hard to believe, even BMW's.

. I guess it's just bad luck on Caddy's part that this specific lemon was sold to a guy with access to 4 million gear heads.
