My brother asked me this question and I wasn't sure, so I thought I would come on here as the forum members know all.
He was wondering what the fastest accelerating (I'm guessing 0-60mph) "real car" is. By "real car" he means a street legal production car...but not like the Ariel Atom, which is a frame on wheels with an engine. I'm not sure if that makes sense. Anyway in anybody knows or would like to throw in some ideas please do. |

Someone's just opened a can of worms...
Do Caterhams / Clubmans count? If so I recall Tiff tested a twin-motorbike engined one (wasn't a Caterham) on FG a season or so back that supposedly was fast enough for the record, but one engine was damaged on the second run.

I'm pretty sure it's the Veyron 2.5 sec.

Production of the Veyron has begun, so...2.5 seconds is pretty good.

Man I was reading something the other day, the Veyron does 0-200km/h faster than Schuey's F2005 7.3 secs

Anyway, thats still Hugely fast, but I'd say that if you're really pushing the boat out, a company called Dauer make a street-legal version of the Le-mans Porshe 962 that does it in 2.6, but I really wouldnt call that production

Given the choice - I'd take the Tiger over the Veyron though. In my book the Ultima definitely counts as a production car. And look, 0-60mph in 2.7secs - very impressive for a RWD car.

Ultima GTR counts as a proddy car in my book too, but it's not quite as sprightly as the Veyron. The 2005 Ultima GTR 640 does 0-100km/h in 2.7 secs

If you ask me, 2.7 secs for a RWD is more impressive the 2.5 secs for AWD

That may be so, but it's still not faster and in this case, we're after the Ultimate.
Why are some people so intent on Veyron bashing? Sure it's had a long and troubled development, but because of the long and troubled development, we now have the most remarkable car ever concieved on sale. A road car that does 0-200 faster than an F1 car, deserves utmost respect. Whether you like it or not, the thing is now the fastest bar none. Not only at the top end, but everywhere.

^ Because it's a soulless engineered appliance. I admire the engineering that has gone into making it so quick. Does that make it a great supercar? No, not in my book. Veyron may be the quickest, but it's not the best.
Anyway, back on-topic... *googles* Dauer can't beat the Veyron's claimed times - it's time is 2.6secs.

Don't say it's soulless until you've driven it.

it's like comparing the F40 with the F50. the F50 is better in all ways you can image. but noone is attracted to it. why? caus it has no soul, it's just a car which is so good they call it a supercar. the veyron has the same problem. it's an ugly bulb with an engine so powerfull, they have to call it a supercar, but that's it |
