So here's the question, lets say you were a high profile presenter for TG/FG or some original motoring show of your own.
Let's say you were paid pretty well and could afford to buy any car up to a budget of $300K US (convert currency to whatever you wish). Lets just say this you only have the means to keep/maintain one car (so no buying 5-6 cheap cars with a budget of $300K, you either buy one expensive car or one cheap car, thats it) Also you're not GIVEN $300K, youre just allowed to get any car that costs up to $300K. If you buy a $10K car, you're not given $290K in leftover cash, so buying a cheap car in hopes of getting a lot of free cash won't happen. Lets say youre responsible for all your fuel, maintenance, insurance costs on your own car, your job is covering NONE of those expenses for you. And lets say in your job as a presenter, you basically get to drive every dream/fantasy car on the best roads/tracks in the world and getting to drive whatever car you wish is as easy as signing yourself for an assignment, so the chance to drive (for work) any car you wish (with none of the headaches of ownership) is at your disposal. So given all those criteria, which ONE car would you like to drive/own? For me after some thought its still probably the E39 BMW M5, because its fast, luxurious, reasonbly roomy (but not a boat like full size luxury sedans like the S Class), practical with 4 doors and a proper boot (good for shopping, going on long weekend trips up the california coast, vegas, or the french riveria). and has subtle understated good looks unlike its current incarnation

Honestly? I'd probably keep my XJR.
Enhance it somewhat... but still keep the XJR.

Aston Martin DB9, I'm pretty sure that's under $300k

I'd go with an Elise. Sure it's a pain to get in and out of, and is kind of spartan, but I don't need much equipment to be happy with a car and the smile on my face every day would be worth the small inconveniences.

That's an easy one for me.
The Lotus Carlton. ![]() Horsepower....Three-Hundred Eighty Two. Goes from naught to sixty....in 5.2 seconds. Weighs in at a respectable....3,600lbs. It also has a six speed gearbox, standard. The stopping power is handled by four MASSIVE 12.5" rotors, manufactured by AP. Who also make brakes for racing cars, or so I'm told. All of this, in a kitted up Vauxhall Carlton. Only 950 were ever made, which makes it quite rare for an old Vauxhall. However, it can do one thing that most cars from the factory back in 1990, couldn't. It was this:
Not just a massive burnout, but one with BOTH of the REAR tires spinning. When new, it cost £48,000. Quite a bit for the time, but so, so worth it. [/clarkson] |

RS6 Avant - the car that would do everything & anything I'd ever ask of a car.

M5 probably, possibly a M3.
Supercar performance but comfortable to drive.

I'd go with a Nissan GT-R, in black.
