That chart makes it look like the automakers are all linked up mafia style. I'm guessing the yellow dotted lines represent payments under the table for favors? images/smilies/tongue.gif

Now all we need is some backstabbing to make things really interesting.

"Before you get all pissed off that I didn't include your favorite company or your country isn't represented, here is how the chart works:

Companies are only included if they have existed as a manufacturer independent of other auto manufacturers (so holding companies and investment firms are okay) at some point in the last 30 years (sorry, Holden). Little tiny coachbuilders aren't included (no Rinspeed), though some small-volume supercar builders are (Koenigsegg).

Links are color coded by type. Some links are dotted out. That's because either the relationship no longer exists, or because it has be superceded by another. For example, Chrysler bought AMC, then Chrysler merged with Daimler-Benz. So now AMC is part of Daimler-Benz. This gives some sense of chronology, although generally I haven't bothered with that. "

Not only that, it is also seems quite outdated (or I simply got too confused with it). Daimler-Chrysler is no more and there are still the car makers of former communist East Germany listed, which ceased to exist more than 15 years ago. Yet their co-operations with VW are left out. Lamborghini is not connected to VW yet in that chart, too.

Also I saw some misspellings. The small German maker of retro luxury roadsters is called "Wiessmann" and not "Weismann". It spells "Veesmann" and not "Vicemann" but I admit Jeremy Clarkson got that wrong, too images/smilies/wink.gif
