Default Why has't anyone put a variable speed limiter in their cars?

For the cautious of us, why hasn't anyone included something similar to the F1 pit speed limiter, but which can be easily varied. To top it off how about using GPS to automatically limit your speed depending on where you are.

feel free to correct me if such tech is already an option.

probably because most people come equipped with a right foot and a brain.

But then again, that hasn't stopped the rest of the nanny devices.

I would hate for such a thing to exist, there's already far more things that are automated and taken care of for the driver than should have ever been allowed.

Sounds like a gizmo like that would cause you to pay less attention, so I'm against it, besides what's wrong with cruise control? images/smilies/dunno.gif

well like all nanny devices, i would only accept them you can turn them off if you want to, but such a device would certainely come useful if you are of the careless type.

i'm for putting a variable speed limiter on all the german cars limited to 155 mph, but why would you want something to control your speed based on location?? i'll do that manually, thanks.

Simply because such a nanny would sucks ass. While a certain part of the human population might find it cosy to be subjected to paternalism and having their lives dictated, I enjoy taking decisions and being the master of my actions...especially when it comes to drivign! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

You shouldn't be on the bloody road if you're incapable of controlling your speed.

Well, all recent german cars like bmw, audi and mercs with Bordcomputer have a beeping option for any speed you want to.

But setting it to fixed non overrideable position would be pretty stupid if you overtake and somethings coming up quick but you can't go faster then the see speed, don't you think??

That beeping function is quite useful if you are on winter tyres, so it warns you when going faster than 210km/h

Cruise control works fine if you aren't looking to speed.

F1 pit speed limiter???

is it something that slows u down automatically when a driver is entering the pit? How does it work? does it have sensors that slow the car down or does the driver press something to slow the car down rapidly and keep it going steady at the particular speed?

Whatever the reason, i never knew such thing existed, pretty interesting. However, I wouldnt want it on my car. As long as its an option that you can add to your car Im happy. but as a standard feature on new cars. id just hate to drive.

don't you have to press a button for the F1 pit speed limiter?

and yea, that beeping thing even exists in a basic Ford Falcon so its nothing new.

for f1 cars, you slow down yourself, then turn it on and gas it till it hits the rpm you should be at and it keeps it there
