funny, I would have thought the vote would be the other way.... I mean consider it, GTR probably has a 2% market share amongst all cars in it's price range, but this poll leads you to believe it would have a 49% market share....

I would buy one. I personally like the way it looks, and I've always been a Gran Turismo fan, so I would like all of the techy gadgets it has.

Learn your history before you mouth off, the Fairlady Z series were real sports cars, the 'Skylines' esp the BNR series R32-R34 were base, boring looking japanese sedans. The GTR cars were tuned up coupe versions with 'some turbos bolted' on images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

http://www.jbskyline.net/R32/Sedans/R32%20GTS4%20Sedan%20Silver%20front%20right.jpg http://www.jbskyline.net/R32/Sedans/R32%20GTS4%20Sedan%20Silver%20Side.jpg
http://www.jbskyline.net/R32/Sedans/Showroom/Bilder/R32%20GTS-t%20sedan.jpg

Quote:
The R32 sedans were offered with four-cylinder and inline-six engines, of which the basic was the CA18i, a normally aspirated 1.8l 4-cylinder with 91hp at 5200rpm (GXi). Next was the RB20DE, a 2.0 l normally aspirated inline-6 with 155hp, for the Click for a larger imageGTS. Top of the bunch was the turbo-charged RB20DET, with 215hp/6400rpm and 263Nm/3200rpm of torque, which worked in the GTS-t and GTS4 models. Later, the GTS25 also got the RB25DE, a normally aspirated 2.5l inline-6 with 180hp at 6400rpm and 231Nm at 4800rpm. 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions were available. The automatic even came with a so-called “power”-mode, in which the box holds the lower gears until about 5000rpm, instead of the usual 3000, before shifting up a gear. For the first time in a Skyline, power was fed either to the rear via a viscous limited-slip-differential, or to all four wheels (GTS4). On the passive side, ventilated disc brakes all around with 4-piston calipers up front and 2-piston calipers in the rear kept this power in check; ABS was available optionally.
So, some nice engines, but most R32s were hardly supercars, or even performance cars...

I would love to drive a R35, but i would never ever think about owning one. Assuming the "boring to drive on the road" thing is true, then i actually see that car as a huge version of whats wrong with many Japanese performance cars/bikes. I don't want to have to go to suicidal speeds to have fun. Furthermore if a car is fun on the road then it i would imagine its probably more fun on the track. Maybe not as "impressive", and probably much slower then said GTR, but who really cares? People with small penis's i suppose.

Sure I'd take one. But as with any new car, the price is enough to make me reconsider. In Soviet-Finland the car actually costs nearer to 160k€ (correct me if I'm wrong), which is enough to make me turn around, take my money and climb back into the taxi that took me to the Nissan dealer in the first place.

So what were looking at here is a car with four wheel steering, a hugely potential engine sauced with a couple of blowers, properly understated looks with some huge bulges in strategic places, a plasticky, yet practical interior, and a driving experience like you'd expect from a lifesize Playstation. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I've just described a Skyline R33 GT-R, yes? And that'll set you back a measly 30-40k€. Now I'm not a race car driver, and neither are 99% of you. So 99% of us will never know the difference between the GT-R and a good old Skyline, which will give you all the thrills you'd possibly ever want to ask for, at a fraction of the cost.

Not to be confused with blasphemy, this opinionated dose of reality was merely a budget oriented response from an investment-minded salesbloke. So if you want the GT-R and nothing else will do, I can't really see any reason not to get one whatever it costs.

Sure thing, but my point was that buying / not buying a specific car because of its badge is stupid. But then again, the average car buyer is stupid, so that kinda fits.

I just read that the engine of the R35 being fully aluminum has not the great-1000HP-just-by-opening-the-hood tuning potential. But being left hand drive would be the only option in the Skyline R-series so my vote still counts. images/smilies/tongue.gif

And yes, badge-shopping is is stupid.

Despite that I could buy other things with 72 Grand, like a '69 Monaro, I would buy the GT-R because it's the sort of car I would drive all day long.

The cylinder walls have a 0.5cm coating of plazma ensuring high levels of boost can be run. The problem lies in the transmission as I believe it's only rated to 700Nm.

well not really. The question is : if I gave you 72k$, would you buy it.
I highly doubt there are many people here who would/could buy one with their own cash. I guess it's more down to how popular it is

If you gave me 72k I wouldn't anyways. I've had my eyes on other cars since i was a kid and i wouldnt go off and buy a GTR because under the hood its better than say, an 835CSi or a Ferrari 328. I dunno many people who'd forgo their childhood or teenhood dreams just because this car is "better", regardless of the badge.
