Default Your longest road trip?

I just came back from my longest road trip to date. I drove 1500 miles (2400+km) in 4 days (including sightseeing stops).

We went from Seattle, Washington to Glacier National Park in Montana. Then, we drove up to Alberta a little bit. Final destination was to the airport in Missoula, Montana. The roads were mostly one lane highways that twisted through mountains or cut straight through plains.

Being a city-boy all my life, it was very different driving in such vast rural areas for so long! The only signs of life we saw were small towns with a couple dozen buildings and a few people walking around. They were all very kind people BTW. (None of the Los Angeles a-hole business)

The car I drove was a Toyota Sequoia. It's basically an American Tundra pickup truck converted into an SUV. My first stint was 300 miles. My second stint was 400 miles. The rest of the trip was individual stints of 100 or 200 miles. Honestly, it tired me out at the end of the day. The ride was decent but like all Toyota's it bore me to death. The steering felt dead, the pedals were insensitive, etc. The car did nothing to keep me awake. images/smilies/thumbdown.gif

Since Jezza did with ease in a DB9, A8, 612, and SLR
I'm sure those cars are much more comfortable than the ladder chassis POS SUV I had. Except for the last SLR race, Jeremy looked very comfortable at the end of the journey. I had energy up until dinner. After I filled up, I collapsed in bed. Next time I'll be sure to pay extra for that Jaguar XJ.

What has been your longest road trip?

[pics of my trip to come if interested]

My longest road trip was from Watertown, NY to Colorado SPrings, CO to Santa Maria, CA to Portland, OR back to Colorado Springs...

I was actually moving from NY to CO, but I had business in Cali and Oregon too... that was all done in 10 days by the way... wow did that suck! We also drove thru 200 miles of a forrest fire in Wyoming on the same trip!

I think I figured my longest road trip to be around 1600 miles. I think. Went up to yellowstone and back, didn't got the same place and took the scenic way as much as possible.

http://home.earthlink.net/~miltonisk.../road/road.JPG

Not easy to find those roads if you use the big highways all the time.

We (friends) drove from Ottawa to Daytona Beach Florida a couple years in a row non stop (about 2000km I think). One year we went about 6 hours off track and ended up on a deserted mountain.

I didn't actually do any of the driving, but one of my friends did 26 hours straight (after he had been awake for 10+ hours before that). images/smilies/eek.gif

It's pretty cool to go from a foot of snow to sitting on the beach in one day of travelling in a car.

From: Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana (Great Falls, MT 59405)

To: Edwards Air Force Base, California (Edwards, CA 93523)

Milage:1,203 plus 10 miles or so for distance that couldn't be added (house addresses). Took I-15 all the way into CA, then got lost for a bit around the Barstow area...but after you keep going west and see big tan-colored hangars that say NASA on a dry lake bed...you can't be far images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Me in my Cavalier, my father in his Cadillac...was a long haul. But my car had a nice ride and a brand new motor just broken in images/smilies/biggrin.gif. Only part that actually was bad was through Utah, stupid f**king drivers there I tell ya...SLC was hell on earth. But it was 1200 miles that was worth it, that town destroyed my life, and my family. I'm so happy I am in a better place, on a very respected Air Force Base, in an awesome house, in an awesome area of California (none of that smog sh*t).

Before that my longest was from Great Falls, MT to Barrett, MN which was 908 miles.

whats wrong with crossing the boarder jos?... can't you go throughout the entire EU with a European plate?

I'm not sure which one is longer, my family and I drove up to Phuket after going from Kuala Lumpur (where I come from) to Singapore and back up to phuket in Thailand... should be about 2000km+ or was it from Melbourne->Sydney->Brisbane->Cairns and back images/smilies/biggrin.gif

this was a long time ago, but quebec to miami, with some detours, about 3600km each way (7 day stay, then back). that was one hell of a drive, and it got interesting too since we got caught in a snowstorm when passing montreal and it took about 5 hours to get to quebec, plus we saw the cars ahead of us end up in ditches and one rolled over images/smilies/lol.gif

yup... did it about 2years back in a Toyota Tarago, pretty nice trip images/smilies/biggrin.gif... wait, I forgot I've done Perth to Melbourne about 4years ago in my cousin's subaru forester STi with full 4-inch exhaust, big turbo, no cruise control, hard recaro racing seats and rock hard suspension in 3days!... I ears were practically ringing after the trip images/smilies/lol.gif

^Shit. No cruise control on Perth to Melbourne? That's the definition of insanity.

Oh, longest I've done is Melbourne - Coober Pedy and back. No idea how long it is but it's long by any standards!

But that wasn't the full round trip? Because I drove more than 3200 km around there...

In Australia it was like 3000 km in 3 days...

And just last week, my place to Frankfurt and back, that's 900 km in one day... Was easy peasy to drive in a 5 series...

Hm, the longest was probably Hamburg - Rome ~1600km. That must have been somewhere in the erly nineties when flying wasn't an option. Since then, I've traveled longer distances by either plane or train.

Longest trip was from budapest to paris, same era as swek's trip, when flying was considered very luxury. was quite young at that time, so i didnt drive that obviousl. I remember that it was quite exhausting cos we didnt go straight to paris, instead we circled around all the countries in between and did a lot of sighseing, must've been 2000+kms.

Longest trip in a day, Maastricht -> Hockenheimring -> Maastricht. ~700km, no big deal on the german autobahn, although it was with my friend oldish ford escort, so we never did more than 140-150kmph.
