Did anyone else watch "Scrapheap Challenge" on Channel 4 last Sunday, June 8th? I figure there will be a few SC fans on these forums at least.

If you did, do you agree it was a tad lopsided, not to say unfair, the Aquarium crew won when pretty much all of their jet propulsion unit was built by their expert whereas the Brum Brums got hands on with pretty much all of their water cannon? I love the show but surely the point of it is that the three team members are capable of building whatever machine it is they require, and the experts are there to advise rather than do all the work for them?

I did watch it, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

For non-viewers, the idea is you have two teams on a scrapyard tasked to build 'something'. In this episode the something was a train that didn't send power to the wheels - inspired by the US Air Force's unmanned rocket sleds. One team wanted to build a jet-propelled one and the other a waterjet one.

I reckoned all along the jet one would be faster (and it was).

The thing is, all the team was working on it. Yes, the expert did a lot of the jet building, but it's a jet engine and I wouldn't want an average joe off the street to build one.

The problem with some of the more specialised challenges - such as this - is that the expert becomes crucial. They did a jet car race a few series' back, that was more fair as both teams used jet engines.

i watch it from time to time and usually what they build is pretty shit and overly complicated, it's easy to sit back and say why the hell didn't you just do this but I guess it's different when you're doing it.

Over here it's called Junkyard Wars, and I thought it went off the air a few years ago.

^ Junkyard Wars is a US Clone of the original AFAIK (we got it too) and probably did end as long ago as you say. Scrapheap Challenge continued on, is a different though related show. Quite fun actually although I missed this series - I think I was watching WRC Access all areas on DAVE when it was on.

I stopped watching since llwellyn stopped presenting. I don't watch tv anyway and have no way of checking when it is on Discovery channel. Teletext for it doesn't work and the online schedule is wrong. The only way i saw any of it was when i caught it by chance. *shrug*

Love the show otherwise, any rips online?

Another Scrapheap fan here. I don't think it was unfair, Jem knows about jets too as far as I know, and he could have helped his team build one, but it's just the way things go. It didn't actually look that much faster than the water jet powered one anyway.

I didn't agree with the result a couple of weeks back though, the sand buggy challenge. Now that was really one sided, they could have at least flattened the sand out between the runs...

Rob still presents the UK version Ice. :)

Cobol: download the Eurosport rips of all 3 days from 95's FTP, then you don't need to watch the Dave show.

Its like all TV shows, they wouldn't have a proper ending if one of the teams couldn't build what they were supposed too. The format is theres the race at the end. So even though theres a time limit on building, if they need more time, they will get it, off camera. Also sometimes the race takes place days or weeks later at another location.

I take your point its kind of like cheating if the expert or the film crew help them out, but theres too much money tied up in making shows for them to leave things to chance.

Anywhere i can get download that?

go on 4OD. Download it and you can watch every episode from this series so far, for FREE!

Just finished watching it.

If you watch it thinking along the lines of topgear it's a great show.

I reckon it's mostly scripted with the basic designs planned beforehand, with stuff the teams need hidden away somewhere in the scrapheap.

Then it's up to the teams and the expert to build the contraption to the best of their ability.

I thought the jet was going to be similar to the boat with outriggers from a couple of weeks ago, It looked great but did sod all...

I couldn't stop laughing when the bloody thing actually worked really well.

Also, again along the lines of top gear, did you notice thay actually had 2 experts starting the jet, there was another guy there with ear protectors on mostly hidden behind the sled.

As with TG bloody good telly.

By the way if you ever get a chance, try to dig out a torrent with the underwater trucks, that was hilarious.

I downloaded it from UKNova.

Wha? That's ghey!

you can use my login account if you want, or does it know where you are by the IP?

I didn't register. It knew. :(

If that's from the IP, how about using a proxy? It runs in the web browser so it might work if you find a proxy based in the UK. I will see if there are direct links too. :)

Edit: still not working. I know where the files are stored on my PC though, so maybe I can send them over. I'll check the DRM first thought to check it allows it.

Bingo. Copy this into the 'Open URL' box of WMP.
Code:

It's a direct link to a programme stream. :)

This is the newest one, I just grabbed it quick to test. :)

Edit: Quality's not that great, but it's only meant to be a small stream.
