Spy Shots: 2010 Cadillac SRX caught in full glory

BMW has the X3 and Mercedes has the GLK-Class.....

Well but buu......Actually, you've got me there... At least its not offensively ugly. Judging from the size, I think its more of a competitor to the Infiniti EX35 and the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX.

If the vehicle pictured above looks vaguely familiar, it should. We basically saw it last January at CES and the Detroit Auto Show as the Cadillac Provoq concept. Replace the slatted grille with a standard Cadillac unit and the E-Flex fuel cell drivetrain with a conventional gas V6 and you have the new 2010 Cadillac SRX. The new SRX should be on the streets by this time next year replacing the current tall wagon that has only been marginally successful. Going forward, Cadillac has basically taking the first-gen SRX and split it into two vehicles, each of which is more focused on a particular segment. This vehicle that continues to wear the SRX badge will be a chunkier, more SUV-like vehicle, while those looking for a more car-like ride can go for the new CTS Sport Wagon. Cadillac isn't give out a lot of details about its new CUV yet, but that rarely stops us from some speculation. While the current SRX is based on the same Sigma platform used by the CTS and STS, the new one has a different architecture. It is also believed to have a transverse-mounted drive train with the possibility of front or all-wheel-drive. Based on its size, it is thought to be an improved, next generation version of the Theta mid-size CUV platform currently used by the Saturn Vue. The SRX, which has previously been referred to as the BRX, will share this new platform with the upcoming Saab 9-4X CUV. For now GM is only releasing these three images, but the vehicle itself will probably debut early in 2009, perhaps at the Detroit Auto Show.

PRESS RELEASE

SNEAK PREVIEW: 2010 CADILLAC SRX CROSSOVER

All-New, Next-Generation SRX Coming in 2009

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. ? Today Cadillac provided a special sneak preview of the next-generation SRX Crossover, a 2010 model that will launch worldwide in mid-2009.The all-new SRX is intended to bring a more dynamic alternative to the heart of the luxury crossover segment, featuring a fresh iteration of Cadillac's signature design language.

"The next-generation SRX is the result of the continued exploration and refining of Cadillac design language, with the goal of creating dramatic presence in the luxury crossover space," says Clay Dean, Cadillac design director.

The all-new SRX debuts at major global auto shows later this year, at which time complete details will be released. The 2010 model will replace the current SRX Crossover, which launched in 2004 as a key component of Cadillac's ongoing product renaissance and global expansion. This next-generation crossover is similar in styling and proportion to Cadillac's Provoq Concept that appeared in many auto shows during 2008.

The all-new production model is being developed to achieve excellent driving dynamics and wet-weather traction, with an elegantly modern cabin designed to accommodate five passengers and ample cargo.

"The next-generation SRX, along with the new CTS Sport Wagon, showcases Cadillac taking its dramatic design into new directions, particularly cars and crossovers that are the right size at the right time for today's luxury consumers," said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager.

:yucky:

At least the old one was distinctive - it didn't look ridiculously jacked up. This one looks like it's trying to be a hardcore off-roader like half of all CUVs out there...and wtf's up with the tacky black-colored bodywork along the bottom? Makes it look like a cheap Chinese knock-off of itself.

I like ti better than the camo'd picks...it looks way better than a Ford Edge or the new Murano...however...it's still not "right" without the invisible rear pillar.
