edit: Holy crap, I just found something out all by myself. :p You guys remember the ads BMW were running for the X6 that claimed "No Precedent." Well guess what? They're wrong! I present to you the SsangYong Actyon! Look at it, just look:

I saw one yesterday and yep, it's about the same size as the X6 and about a bazillion times more ugly. Any when was it made? 2006.

Your standard, mk.3- mk.5 fwd boxes are no more expensive than other old family cars, but the ones people want, the Mk.1 and 2 (and the cosser)... Oooh boy.

Under 2000?, all you will get is a rustbucket, or a bad project car. Unless, that is, you go for a 1.3, which doesn't really move. For something relatively brisk (130-150bhp), you're looking at 5k?+. For a well prepped F-cup etc. rally car, you could be looking 20k?+ (no kidding)

As for the other kind of escorts, I suggest turning to some of the other Finnish users on this forum, they might have more info. :p

Hey, I'm not going to be the one to ruin the board with Tuksu :p

So last Friday my friend took me out in his 94 Mustang GT (Nothing but a shiftgate and Cobra wheels in terms of mods, so 210 hp 280tw), and I have to say being able to break the rears loose on an automatic going from 1st to 2nd is pretty... sweet.
We were looking for *ahem* some street racers I know that drive around here, but our search was unsuccessful and we just wasted half a tank of gas going rather quickly.
Ever since that night, I've just been thinking about it. I think I may have fallen in love with the 4.6 Modular's throaty grunt, regardless of how his Mustang is actually probably slower than my Mom's Benz. I don't CARE that Mustang's are made like crap, don't handle, have live rear axels, the ride quality is horrible, are incredibly skittish over rough roads, get bad gas mileage, and cost a fortune to insure. I want one. Badly.
Regardless of how stupid it is, I've been touched by that Mustang magic. I WILL NOT buy a car with my own money, unless it is a Mustang. At least at first, until I completely trash one around a tree or something and have to get a Civic.
Black 03 Terminator, of course, is my ideal, but I think I would like a black 03 GT just fine. Manual is a requirement.
Full exhaust, headers, ECU, some other mods...
Now for a job to pay for the damn thing.

You couldn't find street racing in JO on a Friday night?

Go south down into Olathe and Overland Park. It's normally pretty easy to find people south of 119th between I35 and 69 highway. Hit every big parking lot (churches, supermarkets, strip malls) and IHOP that you see . I also remember seeing some great stuff east around State Line and 135th street/150 highway.

Oh yeah, get a 5.0 :D. If you just want something to beat on, an earlier 5.0 car is cheaper, lighter and has all the same problems of the later ones!

Why am i falling in love with the original X-Type? :?

HIDE BEFORE SPECTRE FINDS OUT!

They drop their value drastically each year so you can actually pick one up for a lot less than it originally cost (and closer to what it should have cost new).

Okay, here's one.
Why does my car keep burning out its headlights? I've replaced 5 in the last 2 years, and this is the first time I have had this many lights go kaputt since, well, ever.

I've tried the "regular" lights, they break, I've tried superexpensive ones, they also break. Now I'm gonna try cheapass ones to see if there's much difference.

The wife says its because I speed, the car makes too much electricity and it wears my lights out too fast. Interesting thought, albeit far from the truth.

Oh wise carnuts of this forum, can someone tell me whats wrong with my car? It must be something electrical, the left light always burns out first, and the other one usually not that long after.

^ Any possibility of cracks or openings in your headlight housings? I think moisture seeping in will give you that.

Oh, and  at your wife's justification.

Because you're becoming senile?

Senile or refined? You be the judge.

They couldn't make it that cheap from new, it'd be too close to the Mondey then.

Because you like a Mondeo in a cheap suit.

Cheap RWD suit. :p

The thing is I see a few of them everyday, and I keep thinking to myself theres nothing wrong with the car... Sure it has the worlds smallest headlights but thats it.

That's where we were, seriously, there was NOTHING. We asked around, even asked a couple of Camaros and Corvettes where there was anything, and they said that 135th street had dried up recently. I know it was my friend's brother's (He's a college junior I think) high school stomping ground, and it was huge back then. But we couldn't find ANYTHING! Just a whole shitload of cops pulling over the occasional ricer.

And yeah, we couldn't find anything in JOHNSON COUNTY. Pretty sad, isn't it?

As for the 5.0, I really like the way the 00-04 Mustangs look... but the Fox 5.0s can be dead sexy. If I can find a decent one, that makes the same noise, I'm sold.

Oh my, that thing is so fucking wrong.

Have you guys seen anyone but the biggest tossers driving around Hummer H2s? It seems to attract even worse characters than the H1/H3.

That is just so wrong... you got your Gulf GT40, DBR9 and now this hunk of steaming shit.

Senile or refined? You be the judge.

Erm, Senile. Unless you get one at a screaming discount or at a very low price used, they're not worth it.

They couldn't make it that cheap from new, it'd be too close to the Mondey then.

Um... they're not much more expensive than a Mondeo to make. And honestly, the car would have been perfectly fine as an uplevel Ford (or in the US as a Mercury), but it's not a Jaguar.

In addition, in the US, the price delta between, say, a 2003 X-Type 3.0 and a 2003 XJ8 4.0 is... about $500. Only about 1-2mpg difference, too. For $500, why *wouldn't* you get the XJ? (Which also goes to show how fast Jaguars depreciate - they're the screaming deal among the higher end luxury marques over here, if you buy used.)

Cheap RWD suit. :p

Got bad news for you - X-Types aren't RWD. They're FWD or fixed-rear-biased (40/60) AWD, with the base EU/UK models being FWD.

The thing is I see a few of them everyday, and I keep thinking to myself theres nothing wrong with the car... Sure it has the worlds smallest headlights but thats it.

And they fall apart relatively fast. The transaxle is known to be weak, for example, and breaks often.

To the person who negrepped me for "LeafSprings"...
Mustangs don't have leaf springs... they have coil springs...
And some Mustangs, such as the 02-04 Terminators, have IRS.
But they do have live rear axles!

Learn your suspensions!
