So I formatted my system drive because I was getting all sorts of errors and my computer was turning itself off by itself. I analyzed the HDD and found that the kernel files had been modified, so I thought they had gotten corrupted somehow.
After the HDD wipe and putting back Windows on it, it stopped turning itself off ... but I've been getting all sorts of problems with it lately. Here's a list of what I have so far.
1. My system tells me that it has a processor with a clock speed of 1.7 Ghz .... but I know for a fact that it can't do more than 1.5 Ghz. Has my computer overclocked itself??
2. Sometimes when I try to delete icons from my desktop, the computer freezes.
3. Sometimes when accessing some of Window's settings from the Control Panel, it freezes.
4. Inexplicably, at random times, it prompts me to connect to my backup dialup connection. (My main connection is up and running all the time, so no need to and it never did that before.)
Ummmm...... help!?
Except for number 4, sounds more like a hardware problem. I'd try to isolate it using bits of hardware from other pc's to find what is faulty. Another HDD would be my first choice. I had a similar problem a long time ago, but then I caused it. I overclocked the system too much and it messed with the PCI and IDE freqs, causing my HDD to go nuts... Maybe you should check that core speed, might be causing all this somehow.
