Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Did anyone ever pump their car's tires with a hand pump? I have one lying in my garage that has a psi gauge, a foot stand, and a T-shaped handle on the pump.

There are two gas stations near my house, both with pumps, but one of them was converted to a coin-operated pump (I'm not gonna pay for air... :p), and the other is broken most of the time.

I have. It takes forever. The pump will heat up quite a bit, too, unless you take it slow.

I was driving from Pittsburgh back to Shrewsbury last week, and I saw this on the road.

*ridiculously long section of Interstate narrowed to one lane*

Those roadworks lasted for over 5 miles, and there was not a single living being on them. It was 3pm, not lunch time, not quitting time.... WHERE WERE ALL THE WORKERS!

PennDOT standard operating procedures.

I saw an eye-piercingly green Focus RS today, brand new. It was sitting on the Nissan/Peugeot/Chrysler dealership's parking lot, which is weird-ish, but the Ford dealer isn't far away.
It's very aggressive, very edgy, everything is sharp and huge on the car.

There was a stunning, black BMW 535d M-Sport (E60) with M6 wheels on a parking lot today. I stared at it so engagedly I mistakenly walked to a grey Nissan Sunny instead of my F.

All I can say is, "How?"

Not sure, there's a video on this site http://zpravy.idnes.cz/z-alfy-romeo...dna-102-/praha.asp?c=A090519_154135_praha_cen , which reveals that the median, which consists of two sets of steel ropes and a fence in the middle, was seriously shattered. Apparently, the Alfa managed to get over the first set of ropes, rammed through the fence and only got stopped by the ropes on the other side. Looks like it's also hit a lamppost in the process.

The GTA Alfas were known to have more power than the car could handle and being a fast car with a fast depreciation, it was likely driven by a kid who just got his license.

I know exactly how this happened. It's a case of the Cuore Sportivo chestburster; the engine has transplanted itself inside a common base model and after a certain time period it has burst through the front.

I thought you were bragging about seeing a Lincoln Navigator and a Nissan 350 Z.

I'm thinking which parts I should take off a donor car tomorrow; what would be the consumable items I will be needing in the near future? The wrecked one apparently still has the pop-up lights, so it could be a good idea to have them and the motors as spare ones, as well as getting some daytime running lights for the front bumper so I wouldn't need to keep my lights up all the time (In Soviet Finland, lights turn you on.. erm, you have to have your lights on the whole day long).

It looks like the designer has gone "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH" the whole time while drawing it.

Popup lights should be scavenged, along with exterior mirrors, taillights, side marker lenses, and anything else that sticks out off the car or is easily broken by asshats.

Also, any pumps and motors that could go out, and might be hard to find later on.

With the exception of the fuel pump, because that's something you should always buy new.

How come semi trucks, pick up trucks, SUVs, and vans can have such easy going restrictions on safety, vehicle design and emissions yet sports cars get it up the butt. Seriously, there are ten times the number of large vehicles on the road than sports cars. The government should ease up legislation on performance cars, let them bring back pop up headlights, free flowing exhausts, and get rid of mandatory ABS and airbags. It'll make the car people happy, it'll make the manufacturers happy, and you can increase smog standards on SUVs and light trucks to make the greenies happy.
