This is what you usually do when you've managed to get the used German-imported car on Finnish soil; you stick those transport stickers on it to be able to drive it temporarily while the evil tax bureaucracy rolls on and you wait for proper plates.

I'm jealous; our temporary plates consist of either a piece of handwritten paper taped on by the dealer; or a bit of cardboard with "IN TRANSIT" scrawled on with a bit of crayon.

... that?s one way you can see it, the other way is that you just want to drive your Car 5 miles from the dealer to the shipping company and have to spend HOURS with lovley german beurocrats who can?t give less about you or your desire to have something else to do ...

But then I?m not really complaining I?m quite happy with the regulations here, but just having to go to the registration office after your plates have been stolen usally takes up half a afternoon and uses up some of those nice bills you keep in your wallet to buy shit you need or want ... that drives me mad.

Wait, do they come with mounting screws included? That's quite IKEA. :p

"XZB"?

You can fit it on your bike so you can ride temporarily while you ride on your bike (Hej, hund)?

Ha, you guys suck. Here you get a proper plate immediately when you get your car... unless you have a small dick and want to put some witty remark on a personalized plate, in which case it takes like a month and in the meantime you are given regular plates to use.

Seeing as how it's possible to do this, I never understood why places like California get people to drive around for months without proper tags on their car until their plates arrive.

There are two types of temporary plate in Pennsylvania:
1) A sheet of paper folded over and taped to the inside of the rear window (guaranteed to leave the worst adhesive stains you've ever seen)
2) A piece of cardboard taped to the plate holder (guaranteed to disintegrate at the first sign of rain)

Here you don't even get that. Temp tags are not required at all. There's usually a bit of cardboard with the dealer's logo screwed in. Welcome to Backwardsville. Our drivers licenses are still printed remotely so when you go into the DMV you come out with what looks like a xerox and is refused by every single grocery clerk/bouncer/cop outside the state too. It takes 4-6 WEEKS to get the real thing in. We're just not fans of temp I suppose.

Because here you don't get your real plate until the registration fee and taxes are paid. The temp tag serves in the meantime between vehicle purchase and registration payed. You can go straight from the dealer to the city office and have your real tags in 10 minutes here if you want to pay the taxes and such then as well.

Well over here you pay everything up front, they won't let you drive the car out if you don't finalize the insurance and everything.

I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but from what people have told me in California you drive around with dealer tags (just has the name of the dealer) until they mail you your plates - you can't just go to the DMV and pick them up.
