While the intertubes are abuzz with Lamborghini's announcement of a comprehensive carbon emissions reduction plan, arch-rival Ferrari is keen to show it's keeping pace as the company's CEO has reportedly indicated the direction Maranello is heading with regards to its greenification.

Two approaches which Ferrari chief executive Amadeo Felisa confirmed the company is looking into include turbocharging and E85 bio-ethanol. Regarding the former, Felisa assures that the weight of Ferrari's technical know-how will be thrown into ensuring that turbocharged engines retain Ferrari's trademark high-revving feel, while he revealed that the ECU on the company's latest model, the California, is already ready to burn E85. But beyond turbos and corn-fuel, Felisa also revealed that they're working on a hybrid concept, likely to incorporate the F1-derived KERS regenerative braking system, to debut at an upcoming auto show in the United States following the Frankfurt Motor Show in September where Ferrari is expected to debut the replacement for the F430 line. Sources suggest Los Angeles as a strong possibility for the hybrid Ferrari's debut.

First the Koenigsegg CCXR, and now a F430 Bio-Fuel. Looks like even supercar manufacturers are becoming eco-friendly.

Somewhere, Enzo Ferrari just died....again.

They wouldn't be working on a 430 hybrid, since the 430 is (going soon, if not already) out of production. It would be the new "F500" model, which we've seen spy-shots of. Heck, the one shot was on the cover of Automobile. :p

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool to that.

You realize that "lol" stands for "laugh out loud," right? So you essentially just said "laugh out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out loud," which makes no sense.

As for Ferrari making a hybrid, what's the point? Obviously we're all trying to cut down smog/pollution/whatever when it comes to people commuting to work every day and that's where the Toyota Prius comes in, but really, are there going to be enough people driving Ferrari F430s to work every day? After all, it doesn't really matter that super high-performance cars get low gas mileage and run premium when they're only going to be run maybe once a month around the block.

Random Thought: When "The Mask" was out and fresh, there was a car dealership that had a message on one of the cars' windshields. It said:
"Smooooooooookin!" It should have been "Ssssssssmokin'!" otherwise it sounds like "smooching."

"Bio fuel" and "hybrid" are two different things entirely.

Because ethanol gives you more power?

No because they painted it with green stripes and are pandering to the eco-mentalists. Call it the F430RR or something and quietly let the government know its fairly green instead of obscenely advertising it.

The upcoming F430-replacement will not be a hybrid.

Also, the hybrid they're working on is a KERS hybrid, not an electric hybrid.

And that Biofuel F430 was a one-off concept car they made over a year ago - something to shut up the environmentalists.

KERS simply means "Kenetic Energy Recovery System" which can mean anything from an air compressor, to a flywheel system, to an electric motor/battery hybrid powertrain.

All cats are mammals, but not all mammals are cats. Some of them are ninjas.

*sandpapers off the biofuel green crap*
NO
NO
DOES NOT GO THERE

Oh hush you. :p

I don't have a problem with ethanol, but it just smells like crap. lol is to hybrids, and that includes KERS.

If a Koenigsegg runs nicely on biofuel, why not a Ferrari?

Hmmm, 900bhp+ F430.........

Ferrari are just fooling everone ... nothing more. Some green stickers on the outside, some engineparts painted green, and some new F1 technology installed to make the bloody things go even faster.

Ferrari going green, that like Silvio Berlusconi swearing an oath on being faithful to his wife ... let?s just laugh about it

I'm struggling to see why everyone's so paranoid about an environmentally friendly Ferrari or Lamborghini.

From many respects, the ICE is quiet a flawed and inefficient concept, and even though it will always be around for certain applications (e.g. Future vintage ICE racing) for the vast majority of everyday applications an electric motor is not a bad way to go.

A hybrid Ferrari, if done right, could be insanely fast since the electric motor responds instantly and could make up for the ICE's lack of low-down punch. The problem is with the electric storage, not the motor itself. Give the electric motor a chance to catch up; After all, the ICE has had a lot more opportunity for fine tuning, and even then there is still work to be done.

Put it this way: Would you have a fast, efficient and fun Ferrari in the future or No Ferraris at all because of a few moaning enthusiasts?
