A new country of residence meant that I needed a new mode of transportation. The variety of cars on this island is pretty amazing with everything from Skylines to Smarts to Space Gears (honking great 4x4 minivans). I set out in search of a car not really knowing what I wanted but as I looked around a car seemed to find me. It was this little beauty right here:

It's a 2000 Suzuki Swift 1.3 and so far I absolutely love it. So far as I can tell the body kit and alloys are part of an 80th anniversary special edition because I have yet to see another Swift that looks like this one. The handling is superb; responsive enough to be fun but not so much that it's too touchy for everyday use. The suspension transmits the road nicely without breaking my back every time I hit an imperfection in the road. The brakes are really good and actually hurt my neck a little with all the stopping power. It is an automatic, however, but manuals are a bit hard to come by around here. All in all it's a very fun little car to drive.

Shame about the slushbox, it's very JAY-DEE-MM though :)

Nice...I'm sure those things zip around like on crack.

Now make it green and mean:

:D

What, no 10 foot exhausts?

^ That would be very tempting but I'm more than happy with what I've ended up with. Maybe I can get another Suzuki...

I'm still contemplating getting a bike and I think the motorcyclist in me will win out in the end.

I'd like my car to stay as far away from the carbage thread as possible. :p The vast majority of those coffee can exhausts and big spoilers are on cars owned by Americans here. The locals just don't do that. Also it's very rare to see a local driving a Skyline or something like a 240SX. This one lets me blend in a little better. Plus it's kind of pointless having a car with a million horsepower when the fastest you can go is 60kph with loads of traffic.

So what do the locals buy if they want a sports car? Do they buy European cars?

At first glance I thought: Hey look a reasonably priced Liana! But then it turned out I was wrong. I always liked all these little runarounds because they are fun even when you`re going slow. It`s just fun revving small petrol engines.

Sounds like you are having a nice adventure. Congrats on rollin JDM yo!

What? No Toyota Mega Cruiser?

just kidding.

Looks like a fun little car, but that transmission looks like a bit of a drag.

edit. looked at the pics again. How long is it? It looks really small.

If you're gonna live in Japan for the time being, you should be able to translate this :p

I'm sorry to disappoint you, sir, but this is a Suzuki Swift:
