Volvo is busy preparing its entry to the midsize sedan market in the shape of the upcoming 2010 S60, which will feature radical new styling picked up by the automaker?s concept of the same name that was revealed at this year?s Detroit Auto Show. Earlier this month, production of the first-generation S60 finally came to an end, marking the end of an eight year product cycle that saw more than 580,000 cars roll off the line at the car?s Ghent factory in Belgium.

The new 2010 S60 is expected to go on sale early next year. This computer generated rendering provides a clue as to what the new car may look like, revealing that it will likely share most of the lines of the 2009 Volvo S60 concept car.

At first glance, the rendered sedan features definite coupe-like proportions, accompanied by strong shoulders, which together give it a look that is very similar to the design of the recent Jaguar C-XF concept vehicle. There are, however, plenty of unique elements such as the traditional Volvo grille and sculptured headlamps with LED bulbs.

Not much is known about the car?s future powertrain but one option will be a new 1.6-liter gasoline unit with turbocharging and direct-injection technologies. Previewed in concept form, the tiny mill develops a peak output of 180hp and a fuel economy rating of 47mpg. Drive will be sent to the front wheels via Volvo's PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Hmm. Reminds me of the concept. I like it. Now they just have to make it more sporty and less snoozy to drive (R excepted).

They seem to have fixed the droopy front end! Should be an awesome looking car!

Ok...good so far Volvo...

WOAH unfortunate number plate!

WOAH unfortunate number plate!

Heh, it is also painted white, hooded in white you could say.

Good thing they didn't show the entire body, the burning cross attached to the roof might give some the wrong idea.

It's on German plates, maybe it's the Avus Performance 'White Power' edition.

I must say I like the P1800ish nose. If the rest does look as good, and it drives well, it might be worth becoming a racist for.

47mpg?

Holy fuck.

Looks quite nice, too.

i approve of that car, if they don't fuck up the back

The concept looked pretty damn good except for the nose, and they have fixed the nose so it should be fine!
Now all we need is a version with a supercharged v8! :burnrubber:

I like how the Volvo is in metallic-white and on KKK plates :lmao:

Bear in mind this is not official work from Volvo, it's a designers interpretation from Schulte Design (hence the OVLOV-badge). I thumbnailed it for people with small monitors. Personally I don't like it much and hope Schulte is wrong/lazy.

^Yeah, the only thing I like about that is the front.

Oh...that's a shame. The front of this render looks good...the rest looks like...a Hyundai Accent from a generation or two ago.

Can someone PS that front onto the actual concept?

Apart from the rendering which wasn't done by Volvo themselves. I am going to go out there and say that despite their best efforts with the rendering, the front end of it looks pretty poor compared to the concept. The final one will resemble the concept much more.

Partially because of Volvo's recent move to increase the size of the grills on their cars, namely the S80 and on the XC60, something which I'm sure I brought up in a couple of sketches I sent to their design studio about 4 years ago for comments and directions on what I should do next....

Also the front of the concept has a look of that of an old family dog, dependable. I'm not saying that Volvo's are dogs, or old, but take from that what you want. Another reason for what I am saying is that the past couple of Volvo concept cars have gone into production with very little exterior alterations. Namely C30 where the wonderful 2 tone paint scheme of white and bronze made it as an option.

Other than that, this will continue the trend of Volvo producing beautiful cars.
