Random Thoughts (Political Edition)

God damnit, I can't gather my head to understand why they are still debating giving everyone the right to cardiac surgery..

The issue is that one side believes that people will be turned down for that surgery because they won't get as much life out of it as someone else might...which insurance companies do, anyways.

They want government out of their health insurance, but want to keep Medicare.

I heard an interesting radio interview a while back from someone in Canada. it went something along the lines of "We've made significant changes to the health care system in Canada, so the long lines you used to hear about have been improved exponentially. If you have something urgent that needs attention, you will get it. If you have something a little more elective, or something like...maybe a bum shoulder, yes. you will wait. Canadians don't really mind waiting...as long as they know that a rich person will have to wait just as long as a poor person."

Strange, I could hear it just fine.
I just played it back three times. I hear some jeering at the beginning, but I can't actually make out any words, and I'd be interested to hear if anyone else can hear what you're claiming. And to be honest, shouting "you lie!" in a silent room is way different than applauding quasi-maliciously outside of an applause break when you're being addressed, or jeering under someone speaking. This absolutely reeks of grasping at straws to me, personally.

Guess you didn't watch many of the films of 60s protests. :p

Also, this is nothing new, despite what the press claims. On Dec. 6, 1916, The Washington Post reported this kerfuffle during a speech by Woodrow Wilson:

?Woman suffrage in its militant form showed itself at the Capitol yesterday afternoon when the attempt was made to interrupt the President in the reading of his address to Congress by flinging from the gallery a vivid yellow banner inscribed in great black letters: ?President Wilson, what will you do for woman suffrage??
So wait, you have to go all the way back to the 60s, and even 1916, to rebuke this claim that the outburst is unprecedented? You don't see that as a little, oh I don't know, flimsy?

HR3200 is not about health care reform, it's about establishing a government health care system specifically designed to extinguish the private sector.
Okay, or, it's about health care reform. You're intelligent enough that you shouldn't need to resort to being pedantic just to form a retort, so I'd appreciate if you wouldn't.

And yes, I am. Because if you think that the Patriot Act would be abused and the giant holes in HR3200 wouldn't be, you're smoking something.
So you're going to equate the potential collapse of the private health care industry to the monumental civil liberties violations that the USA PATRIOT act has allowed? I think there might be a fundamental priority issue here.

Maybe I'm just used to liberalsocialcommie healthcare, but I don't support private health insurance. The whole point of a for-profit insurance company is to maximize profits, which means denying claims. Therefore, the more doublespeak and difficulty they can present to you in filing and actually receiving a claim, the better for them, because it's the best business. That's fine for important things (ie, auto insurance, home insurance...) but not for something that directly affects your health. Yes, a government-run system has the same basic goals in order to save state tax revenue, but at least the state has some interest in keeping it's citizens alive, whereas a private business has no reason whatsoever to spend more than a person's "worth" on his/her care.

And I find it funny that the same ideology which distrusts every aspect of government- seeing all of it as dark, shadowy controllers with our worst interests in mind- also puts major faith in businesses, as if the point of large corporations was not ultimately the same.

To you brits: enjoy your somewhat efficient railways while you have them. They might be nationalized....and everyone knows how efficient something becomes when the British nationalize it.
70% 'back rail renationalisation'
The RMT union has consistently called for public ownership of the rail network

Most people are in favour of returning the railways to public ownership, with just 23% supporting privatisation, according to a poll.

A survey of more than 1,000 people for the Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT), found seven out of 10 of those questioned backed renationalisation.

The state of the railways will be debated by the TUC conference in Liverpool later this week.

The RMT will be calling for support for full rail renationalisation.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said the poll showed the government is "out of step with the voters" on who owns and runs the rail network.

He said: "If Labour are serious about re-engaging with their core supporters, they can prove it by making a bold statement on public ownership of the railways."

The swedish goverment are fishing for votes.. Suddenly we who are students will get moar monies (350 sek each month)...
Don't change who you vote for for 350 SEK. That's 400 NOK, and even with the lower prices, that is not much money, just a few pints of bad lager a month..

On another note, it's election in Norway today. Pretty close between the current government and the right side oposition.

The issue is that one side believes that people will be turned down for that surgery because they won't get as much life out of it as someone else might...which insurance companies do, anyways.

I can't say socialized medicine has been bad to me, to my father who have suffered cancer and a heart disorder, to my mother with her 20 years of cronic backproblems..

Are we rich? My father is an anestethic nurse, my mother is a biochemist, both working in the socialized medical hell, if you like. We are not rich, not even close. But we get good health care, very good health care.

No matter who you are, you get good health care..

The privatisation of British Rail was and still is a spectacular failure. Even the conservative party, responsible for the privatization, admits it's a complete failure. Nationalising it is the only viable option, rail is not like road, sea or air transport, the infrastructure is closely linked to the trains, splitting them up only adds unnecessary complexity and cost.

I read in the newspaper that there had been a small march in Washington, the article had a picture that caught my eye (of Hitler no less) so I decided to surf the Flickrs to see what it was about. And lo and behold, I found many signs indeed!

This one is particulary classy.

How do they pick up things from the ground then?

No socialized anything. Who needs roads, I don't need your stinkin roads, I've got a pickup!

Ah, of course.

Obama is apparently a member of the politburo.

https://pic.armedcats.net/k/kn/knarkas/2009/09/14/3913589340_293f3af4cb.jpg
But wait, he's also a member of the now defunct nazi party of Germany that was active between 1919-1945? How can the politburo have missed that?

I'm scratching my head on this one. I thought that to religious people, God and the Lord, were the same, irrespective of where the believer may live.

I don't care what happens to Obamas health care plan, but I do like the entertainment it provides! :D

Why is Zelaya on that poster? That doesn't even make any sense.

Also, I'd hardly call the Nazi's "liberal". They should have used this flag, if they wanted to stop liberal fascism...

LIBERAL FASCISM?!

That is quite possibly the most stupid dribble I have ever heard, easily comparable to conservapedia calling Obama both a muslim and an atheist. It's like a hindu steak house, a catholic condom shop, a jewish pork sausage..

It's great! Just great!

I read in the newspaper that there had been a small march in Washington

The federal park system is saying that over 800,000 people were there. Last time I checked, that isn't small.

I buy all my beer from Germany! And i make my own booze.. :p
And there is no way in hell I'm voting for the the current goverment..

So you're good at making moonshine? :)

I've had my share of both good and bad moonshine over the years. If you want really nice moonshine, try some Serbian plum brandy moonshine.

Where in Sweden do you guys live? :D

I live on the front. Draw a straight line from Oslo to Malm? and I'm in the middle. Where there's islands.

I'm good enough!
I live in G?vle, roughly 1h 45min north of Stockholm!

Right. :)

I'm in the middle of Norway, pretty much precicely in the middle.

To you brits: enjoy your somewhat efficient railways while you have them. They might be nationalized....and everyone knows how efficient something becomes when the British nationalize it.

The UK's current rail system is absolutely hopeless. Denationalisation has failed horribly. The trains are more expensive than ever, our main 'long distance train' is now well over 30 years old, and the only true high-speed rail we have in this country was built by the French, on their insistence. Success - such as Virgin Trains' success with CrossCountry - is punished, too.

We are at least 30 years behind the rest of Europe when it comes to the railways. Renationalisation is, frankly, the only way to improve the UK's currently abysmal railway.

If you want proof that nationalised railways can work, look at the other side of the Channel Tunnel.

Isn't the rails nationalised in Switzerland?
