Alright guys,

im in switzerland, got here yesterday and tonight im off to Melbourne, Australia and then im back in the UK on tuesday night. mission an a half, my body is going to be ruined!

how the heck does anyone live in switzerland, its stupid expensive... i just paid 4 CHF for a ham n cheese sandwich. something exactly the same would of cost me about ?1 in the uk. 4 CHF is about ?2.30! rip off to the max!

ive spent about 60 quid in a day just buying stuff i need... and i only had one meal yesterday!!! baden to birr n back cost me 8 quid, and ive done that trip twice. Zurich to baden was nearly 20CHF and its gonna be the same on the way back! i'd be broke in a week if i lived here!

on a side note.... ill be in Melbourne (landing at tullamarine) on sunday morning (7am) if anyone wants to tell me good things to see in melbourne while im there (for like 2 days max lol) then fire away.

Welcome to the expensive part of the world! lol

What do you want to do in Melbourne?

Wait, a person from the UK complaining that mainland Europe is expensive? Have I gone bonkers?

Nope, swiss pricing is bonkers, and with the current exchange rate, living in the UK is hardly more expensive than germany (it's a bit more expensive than living in Berlin, which would put it on par with western germany).

4 CHF is about 2,6 EUR and that seems rather reasonable for a sandwich for me, I'm tempted to say cheap. If you want expensive, visit Winland. Of course, it all depends how much sandwich are you getting.

Must be a shocker when the pound has fallen. Give it up and be part of Europe.

4 CHF = 27 SEK = cheap sandwhich. Also Winland ftw!

What I've seen/done when in Melbourne:
Ride a tram
Marvel at the brown muck that is the Yarra River
Famous When Dead Gallery
State Library
Federation Square
Cook's Cottage
Zoo & Aquarium
Queen Victoria Markets

Also wandered down a lot of the laneways between The Clocks and the Uni and found heaps of little shops will all sorts of stuff - some tat, some brilliant!

Anything you're particularly interested in?

That's still only $4.25 in Aussie dollars, that's pretty much the same as if you bought something here from a 'Dean and Deluca'-ish store.

maybe sammiches in the UKland are just cheap because they're tasteless and shitty?

Expensive? I just bought a salmon sandwich for 4.5 euros...

Conventions are good sources of expensive ?7 sandwhiches.

Crown Casino ;)

4 CHF = $3.90 USD.

Guess it depends on what kind of sandwich. Something like a "Premium" chicken sandwich from McDonald's costs about $5 over here, but then they have double cheeseburgers for $1.....

Don't worry, you'll be back home before our body even realizes the jetlag.

:threadnopics:

You think Switzerland is expensive, come to Moscow, Russia.

May I suggest panhandling?

(Haysoos, dude...the last nice restaurant sammich I had was about $6 USD. Then again, it was from one of those semi-fancy girl food restaurants that cater to old Junior League-types who "do lunch," but...just sayin'.)

Dude subway is like $10 here for a footlong,

You'll be pretty jet lagged when you get here, you could go to the acquiriam (I can't spell for shit) but there really isn't that much "touristy" sort of stuff in Melbourne that's easy to get to. Do a bit of exploring down alleys and you can normally find excellent cafes and bars (though the place I went to last night was crap)

Basically what's currently on and all that sort of jazz.

FYI our public transport system isn't very good and fairly infrequent when you get outside of Melbourne.
