Awesome Thread... [Automotive Edition]

Not only does it have Merc wheels, but it has a Porsche RS badge. Going that extra step makes it carbage IMO.

You do know the RS cars were originally developed by Porsche right? Even have the Porsche as part of the logo.

Yes, originally. That one wasn't. And even if the Porsche badge could be justified (which it can't), it still has bloody Mercedes wheels. I doubt it crossed his mind and he just wanted to put as many elements from different brands as possible on his car.

I hope this is not a repost. Even if it is, it's just staggering.

I prefer the original version too, but...still. I feel kinda silly, I have tears in my eyes. *

(Guess who has a white NSX as her PC wallpaper background ATM :p)

* Maybe it's because even though I was too young to remember Imola '94, anything Senna-related, when used in the right way = instant lump in the throat for me. Ditto Henri Toivonen (and I wasn't born then, that was a few months later). WTF?

First of all, those rims look good on the car.

Second of all

The RS2 was a much developed by Porsche as the 500E was. Meaning they had a hand in tuning certain aspects of the car (like engine and suspension) and handled most of the specialised production. In the end the RS2 is still more Audi than Porsche.

Also, the RS6 is sitting far too low. In a modern car, the fender should never cover the wheel.

Fantastic.

You guys are so boring. Slammed cars have their own appeal, not everything has to be perfectly dynamic road racers.

So hawt.

I think the difference in mind anyway is that the RS6 is/was designed around performance (with a tiny bit of utility) and doing things that compromise that for purely aesthetic reasons i find annoying/stupid. However on things like the above truck and most VIP/Bippu cars there was never any illusion of performance mostly luxury (or utility in the case of the truck) so asthetic changes can't really comprimise something that was never a focus.

I think the following video pretty much covers all of my issues with the original RS6

What? It's a god damned Audi station wagon. It was designed to be a luxury utility vehicle first, then modified to be fast. If it was a serious performance orientated car it wouldn't even be a 4 door sedan and the engine would be in the right location... in front of the rear wheels and behind the driver like the Flying Spaghetti Monster intended.

I still don't understand why people are even bitchy about the "RS" badge on an RS6. So what if it's a Porsche badge, it looks good on the car and it's not trying to claim to be anything it's not. Even if Porsche's idea of "RS" is different from Audi's idea of "RS"

Lets be fair here the RS6 was heavily rengineered by Audi from a performance standpoint it it quite a bit different than the A6 or even the S6. By your argument hardly any cars are performance oriented including every thing from the history of Mpower road cars (except the M1) every GTR except the latest variant, every Mazdaspeed car (except the MX-5) never mind all of the Type Rs (except NSX) innumerable RS badged Fords and pretty much every muscle car in the history of muscle cars from both America and Austrailia. Calling the RS6 not performance focused is just stupid it is one of the most performance focused Audis you can buy that isn't a R8.

I have no problem with the badge It's the huge ass wheels and slammed to fuck stance that i find stupid on this particular car. Look everyone is entitled to their opinion especially on the INTERNET i was just trying explain why i find a dumped RS6 on 20s ugly as shit but still love that truck or a LS400 that has been bagged and dropped to the ground rolling on 21" Works that weight 35lb each.

Its big, luxurious, and goes like stink in a straight line. Who cares if you drop it on big wheels? Its not like he donked a GT3

Sure now it does. Before being put on huge wheels and getting slammed it could go like stink in both a straight line AND around corners...

Its a big luxury car with a big engine. Going fast around turns is hardly a priority for most buyers, I would imagine. Also, how does lowering a car make it slower in a straight line?

It doesn't... where did I say it does. Also the market for the RS6 is thesame as the M5 or any other highperformance saloon/estate so yeah i think it might be atleast a consideration if not a priority that it goes around corners quickly.
