The Great Adventures 4

DVD Description
Middle East Special

In their biggest adventure yet (until next year?s DVD), Jeremy, Richard and James attempt to recreate the journey of the original Three Wise Men as they bumble their way across the Middle East towards Bethlehem.

But this high octane nativity play is fraught with danger and incompetence. Will they survive the hair raising landing in a Russian transport plane? Will they get out of Iraq in one piece? Will Jeremy?s bullet proof door actually stop bullets? Will their clapped out hairdressers? convertibles survive the tortures of the Syrian deserts? Will James recover from his head injury? Will Mary and Joseph be happy with their gifts? Will they even find the right manger? The answers are yes, yes, no, sort of, sort of, no and no. But you?ll find that out for yourself in this extended length film.

Special Features:

?Exclusive audio commentary with James May and Crew
?Deleted scenes

The USA and Albania Road Trips

In their not quite biggest adventures yet, the boys visit the good old US of A and former Eastern Bloc Albania for two action packed road trips. In America our trio, armed with the hottest new supercars - the Mercedes SLS, Ferrari 458 and the Porsche 911 GT3RS ? head through NASCAR Country and enjoy a dancing Mayor, a Stig on a drive by shooting range, and the white knuckle Virginia Raceway, with their adventure climaxing in a race across New York.

But that?s nothing compared to Albania, where they are summoned by a MAFIA Boss to pick a winner from the new Rolls Royce Ghost, The Mercedes S Class, and the new Bentley Mulsanne (sort of). Keen to please, the boys embark on their most comprehensive test ever, including the Dead Fat Man in the Boot challenge, and a bank robbery to find the best getaway car. Will James be killed in the resulting car chase? The answer is yes. Definitely.

Synopsis
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May return for another selection of adventures that sees the intrepid trio testing the limits of various vehicles in some very special places. Includes: THE MIDDLE EAST SPECIAL along with the USA and ALBANIA ROADTRIPS.

Nice to have James participating in another commentary. I wonder what he'll have for lunch this time?

To be honest, I felt somewhat cheated with that commentary. They go quiet for rather long periods, and then at other times, they're eating.

To be fair, Alasondro, only James actually ate anything, so he went silent for quite some time. Don't remember any long pauses from the others, though.

That's the rollercoaster at the theme park in Iraq when they stayed at the complex's hotel.

I get these dvds for the commentaries. This one is a bit of a disappointment. No Wilman driving the narrative, and no cameraman either. I usually find their trials and tribulations of getting one of these trips onto film the most interesting.

Agreed. I love a good commentary as well, and this one is definitely missing Wilman and Richard Porter. The Bolivia commentary is one of the best ever and I was kinda hoping for more of the same. Oh well...

The reason for the long pauses is simple: the Great Adventures version is an extended version of that episode.
The commentary appears again in the standard version available in the Series 13 set, in its entirety.

I'm hoping for the return of "spam avec le beans".

I did enjoy James's participation in the commentary. But I wish they'd tell us about the nuts and bolts of filming on location. i.e. how they get all their equipment there, what kind of a local place they stayed in, what the schedule was like, what the food was like, etc. And why the heck did they wear the same clothes for a week? Ick! But I suppose they do that for filming continuity. Still, I'd have 10 sets of the same outfit with me. The most interesting thing they talked about was whether the viagra had any effect on James's old chap.

I've ordered the Great Adventures 4 and look forward to the commentary as well.

Well, I've just watched the Middle East with commentary, and I was quite disappointed that Andy Wilman wasn't on it. Nor was Iain May. They are quite good for a laugh. It was pretty interesting. They did actually convince me that they didn't know where they were landing. I figure Clarkson at the very least would know all about what was going on (if not all of them). James only briefly discusses his head injury and wasn't faking his disorientation. Overall, it was good, but not astounding.

I've recently re-watched the commentary for the Africa special (my favorite episode of all time), and despite James not being in it, it's a very good commentary. They discuss a lot of the filming conditions and tell some funny and interesting stories. Wilman is a hoot.

Enjoy while it lasts on YouTube: Yoga Class outtake.
